.308 / 7.62x51mm NATO Ammunition

Hunting is a practice that seems to grow in popularity with the passing of each year. And while I am not too qualified to speak on the subject, one thing I can say with some certainty is that every great hunter needs a great rifle. One of the marks of a great rifle is the cartridge it is designed to fire. Of course, the selection of a cartridge also depends on the game to be hunted. One thing I am sure of, though, is that the .308 Winchester cartridge is one of the most popular and successful hunting cartridges in the world – ideal for both medium and large game.

The .308 Winchester cartridge is a rimless, bottlenecked rifle cartridge that was introduced in 1952. Designed and introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company for hunting, the cartridge has gone on to find use in both civilian target shooting as well as military and law enforcement sharpshooting. In 1954, NATO adopted the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge, which is based on the .308 Winchester cartridge. Though not identical, these two cartridges share extremely similar specifications. Their interchangeability is considered safe by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers Institute (SAAMI). In terms of ballistic performance, both the .308 Winchester and the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges are very similar to the 30-06 Springfield cartridge.

As noted, hunting is popular not only in the United States, but around the world as well. Being that the .308 Winchester cartridge is one of the most popular hunting rounds currently available, we here at Keepshooting.com have decided to begin stocking a wide range of .308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm ammunition. For now, you may be interested in the Brown Bear .308 ammunition. Each box contains 20 rounds of 145gr FMJ bullets. In the coming months, more and more ammunition will be added to our online store. Be sure to check back frequently.
