The Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite is based on a recoil-operated locked breech design, which along with the .380 ACP cartridge, results in very little recoil. But while the Mustang® Pocketlite does not exactly kick like a horse, it hits like a horse – exactly why you are going to want to consider it for your next concealed carry piece. As noted, the Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite is a semi-automatic pistol that utilizes a recoil-operated locked breech design alongside a single-action trigger mechanism, distancing itself from run-of-the-mill pistols chambered in .380 ACP and aligning itself with the famed M1911. And though it is far from MIL-SPEC, the Mustang® Pocketlite comes closer to the sheer joy of firing a true 1911 than any other reduced-dimension copy. Durability, reliability, concealability and accuracy are the key words attached to this one, folks – it is not one you are going to want to pass up. As its name suggests, the pistol is chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge and ships with two six-round magazines inside of a hard plastic case.
Samuel Colt, originally a failed businessman, would go on to become arguably one of the most important figures in United States history. With his design for the Colt Paterson, the first commercial repeating firearm to employ a revolving cylinder with multiple chambers aligned with a single barrel, Colt altered the course of American history – hence the saying, "Lincoln may have freed all men, but Colt made them equal." But even though it was the Colt Paterson that launched the career of Colt and ushered in a period of fame and fortune, it would be his founding of the Colt's Patent Manufacturing Company – now known as Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC – that was to solidify his enduring legacy.
Today, the company that was originally responsible for the production of all AR-15 and M16 rifles continues to uphold a legacy that began over 175 years ago. With the same innovative spirit that led to the Colt Paterson in 1836 at the heart of the operation, Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC maintains its position as one of the world's foremost arms manufacturers with a blend of modernized manufacturing processes and state-of-the-art technologies. Not to mention, the company carries a tradition of uncompromising quality – quality that can be seen in firearms like the new Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite.
Since the development of the original M1911 by John Moses Browning, the platform has continually evolved, proving its worth alongside a wide variety of applications – the new Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite is proof.
Based on Colt's famed line of 1911s – the Colt Government® Model in particular – the Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite is a reworking of the original Mustang®, drastically improving on not only the original, but also many of Colt's previous attempts at crafting a pistol that is ideal for personal protection.
When Colt originally introduced the Mustang® it was a heavy steel behemoth constructed from cast components. Their newest effort makes use of CNC machining, combining a stainless steel barrel and slide machined from solid bar stock with an aluminum frame that cuts down the weight of the pistol and makes for a much more comfortable carry piece. Additionally, these modern manufacturing processes lend themselves to increased overall durability, reliability and accuracy thanks in part to the precise tolerances for which they allow. It is truly a pistol that you must fire to believe.
That said the Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite features a 2 3/4 inch barrel alongside an overall length of just 5 1/2 inches. Weighing in at less than a single pound with a loaded magazine, its light weight allows for comfortable carry and stems from its electroless nickeled aluminum frame. The frame combines perfectly with the aforementioned steel barrel and slide, along with a comfortable 1911-style grip that makes carrying not only comfortable, but a non-issue. With a single-action-only trigger mechanism as crisp as any full-sized 1911, the Mustang® Pocketlite provides top-notch performance and unbelievable accuracy right out of the box. Other features include checkered black polymer grips, high-profile sights, a Commander-style hammer, a solid aluminum trigger and an upswept beavertail frame. As noted, each pistol comes with two six-round magazine and is chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge.
With the new Colt .380 Mustang® Pocketlite, concealed carry just became a no-brainer.
