Diamondback Firearms DB-15 FDE

As an alumnus of the University of Maryland, I am essentially programmed to have only very specific thoughts when presented with the term "diamondback." Why? Well, way back in 1921, the university's newspaper was named The Diamondback in honor of the diamondback terrapin, a species of turtle local to the region in which the university makes its home. Twelve years later, the university adopted the species as a nickname for their athletic teams, and Testudo the diamondback terrapin was born. Not to mention, the state of Maryland adopted the diamondback terrapin as the official state reptile in 1994.

So, as you can see, it is very difficult for me to think of anything else when I hear the word diamondback. But that will not stop newcomer Diamondback Firearms LLC from trying to insert itself as a mainstay in my mind – something they are very gradually achieving through the continued development and production of innovative firearms like the Diamondback Firearms DB-15 FDE.

The Diamondback Firearms DB-15 FDE is a semi-automatic rifle that is chambered for the 5.56x45mm NATO/.223 Remington cartridges and utilizes the proven direct impingement operation system alongside a rotating bolt. Much like a traditional M4, the DB-15 FDE features a multi-position telescoping stock as well as a modified quad-rail handguard. Manufactured entirely in the United States, the rifle, which is presented in a flat dark earth finish, ships with a single 30-round magazine.

The Diamondback Firearms DB-15 FDE is now available from Keepshooting.com for $844.10.

Diamondback Firearms LLC is an American arms manufacturer based in Cocoa, Florida that was originally established in 2009. The company began with the manufacture of their micro-compact DB380 – a small concealed carry pistol chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge that boasts the company's patent-pending "Zero-Energy" striker firing system. In the few years since, Diamondback Firearms has added both the DB9 – a micro-compact pistol based on the original DB380 but chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge – and the DB-15 to their lineup. And though still very young, Diamondback Firearms would like their customers to view their products as potential lifetime investments. As such, the company is committed to making both innovative design work and customer service top priorities.

Though the company began its journey on the back of the DB380, the popularity of the AR-15 platform made the inevitable development of their DB-15 a no-brainer. As such, design work began almost immediately alongside the foundation of the company, and it was not long before the DB-15 – an AR-15 that raises the bar in regards to features and performance while representing value and versatility at an affordable price – was available for consumers all over the United States.

The Diamondback Firearms DB-15 FDE features a 16-inch, 4140 chrome-moly steel barrel (1:9-inch twist rate) and an overall length of 32 1/2 inches when collapsed ad 36 1/4 inches when extended. The chrome lining within the barrel serves to protect it from rust and corrosion as well as give it a higher resistance to wear. The free-floating barrel, which boasts an M4 profile, is joined by upper and lower receivers that have been forged from 7075 T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, which contributes to the overall light weight of the rifle – just over 6 1/2 pounds. Optimized for optics, the DB-15 features a flattop upper receiver with a Picatinny rail that runs the length of the receiver. This is joined by the modified quad-rail handguard, which promotes the simple mounting of lights, lasers, grips and other tactical equipment. Additional features include an A2 pistol grip and an A2 birdcage-style flash hider. As noted, the rifle is presented in a flat dark earth finish and includes a single 30-round magazine.
