Let’s talk food. Together, food and eating make up what is perhaps one of my most favorite aspects of life. I like food. Food tastes good. That’s really all there is to it. I also like camping, which presents a problem for my love of food. Indoors or outdoors, a guy has got to eat, right? How am I supposed to eat all the food I love when sleeping in the great outdoors – miles away from any kitchen? Over the years, cooking outdoors has proved to be a little complicated, unless you know what you’re doing. Lucky for me (and you), Keepshooting.com now sells the East German folding stove – the answer to all the outdoor cooking problems life has to offer.

Very similar to an Esbit® pocket stove, the East German folding stove is a solid-fuel stove featuring a design that is both lightweight and compact. No bigger than a deck of cards, this stove is surprisingly capable of supporting upwards of 50 pounds – meaning any pots, pans, mess kits or cups you need to heat will work just fine. This stove includes 12 pyrofix tablets to be used as a fuel source, although any easy-to-find Esbit®, hexamine or trioxane tablets are usable as well.

Put an end to energy gels, trail mix and MREs and fry up some bacon and eggs. The East German folding stove is just begging to be purchased at the low price of $2.95!

Originally designed for military use, the East German folding stove is an unissued, surplus item. Though they are new, their age does show as they date back to World War II era Germany. That said, each stove is in great cosmetic and working condition and is ready to serve however you see fit.

Featuring a tin construction, these stoves are extremely lightweight and compact. As noted, they are almost identical in size and shape to a deck of cards – measuring approximately 3.5-inches long, 2.5-inches wide and .75-inches high when closed. When open, the size is approximately 4.25-inches long, 2.5-inches wide and 2-inches high. Weighing in at a mere 4 ounces, this stove is stored easily in any backpack or survival kit. It can even fit in a shirt pocket. Talk about convenience!

Being that this is a solid-fuel stove, it requires small fuel tablets as an energy source. Our East German folding stove comes with 12 pyrofix tablets, which are very similar to Esbit® tablets. What does that mean? It means efficiency and easy cleanup, as they have a high energy density, burn smoke-free and do not liquefy or leave any ashes behind. It also means they have a virtually unlimited shelf life. When you run out of the included pyrofix tablets, you can use any easy-to-find Esbit®, hexamine or trioxane tablets as a fuel source.

I’m sure you love all of this information, but what good is any of it if I don’t explain how to use the stove? When the stove is closed, simply pull each end apart and turn each side up. Place a fuel tablet in the well and light it. The turned up ends create a support for cooking utensils to rest on as the energy source below heats your food or boils your water. Since the tablets burn so efficiently, there is no need for cleanup. Simply let the stove cool and fold it back to its closed position.

Now is the part where I usually try to include a few selling points. Sometimes it’s difficult, but this product is so great it practically sells itself! It’s very simple to use. It’s lightweight and easily portable. It’s perfect for outdoor cooking. Buy one for yourself and then buy several more as gifts.
