This SOCOM 16 Rifle is a shortened version of the M1A Rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory, Inc. It is for civilian and law enforcement use.
The name SOCOM is taken from the well known acronym for the United States Special Operations Command for marketing purposes only and does not indicate any relationship with or approval by this organization.
The main difference from the M1A rifle is the barrel that has been shortened to just over 16 in from 22 in. This improves the maneuverability, but is still legal in the United States of America under the National Firearms Act.
The rifle is chambered in 7.62 x 51 mm NATO (.308 Win.). The relatively powerful caliber and compact size make it suitable to close quarters combat (CQB).
