Like the PS90, the FN FS2000 tactical is one of my favorite rifles, mainly due to its unique design. Its functionality certainly does not hurt its case though. Also like the PS90, the FS2000 is a civilian-legal variant of the similarly named, similarly designed F2000. The F2000, in development throughout the late 1990s, saw its debut in 2001. It was not until 2006 that the semi-automatic FS2000 was released. Though it has not enjoyed the same widespread deployment seen by the P90, the F2000 is used by a number of Special Forces units worldwide. Intended for markets in which ownership of fully automatic firearms is illegal, the FS2000 is equipped with an extended barrel and an integral muzzle brake. The barrel also has a 1:7 twist rifling rate – perfect for those who prefer shooting heavier bullets. However, unlike the disparity between the PS90 and the P90, the disparity between the FS2000 and the F2000 is much less noticeable. And while ownership of fully automatic firearms is legal in the United States, choosing the FS2000 over the F2000 saves a great deal of time, money and hassle. But, enough about the differences in variants, I should probably discuss some specifications about the model being sold.
I guess you have noticed that the F2000/FS2000 and the P90/PS90 share some key similarities. One is there development for use as a personal defense weapon, which gives them their lightweight and compact design. Being that the FS2000 tactical is a PDW, it is also very versatile and somewhat modular, customizable for a number of different optics, grips and more. The FS2000 has an overall length of 29.29 inches, a width of 3.20 inches and measures approximately 10.20 inches high. As previously noted, the FS2000 has a barrel length of 17.44 inches, longer than the short-barreled F2000, but not overtly discernible as in the P90/PS90. If anything, the extended barrel provides for greater accuracy. You may also be pleased to find out that the rifle weighs only 7.58 pounds when empty. Additionally, the rifle is equipped with a top-mounted MIL-STD 1913 rail, perfect for mounting optics, lights, lasers and more. Of course, the rifle also includes a removable front sight, which is adjustable for elevation as well as a flip-up rear sight that is adjustable for windage. Whether you choose optics or iron sights, the rifle boasts an effective range of about 500m.
The FN FS2000 tactical is also fully ambidextrous, meaning it can be fired easily by both left- and right-handed shooters. This is made possible by the olive drab, polymer thumbhole stock and the generous inclusion of fire controls that are accessible by both hands. Though only the left side of the rifle has an operating handle, the safety selector is housed in the trigger guard and the magazine release is located on the bottom of the rifle. Additionally, the rifle features a right side forward fired case ejection.
The magazine for the FS2000 is also worth mentioning. Included with your purchase is one 30-round magazine. The rifle also accepts 10-round magazines. What is interesting though is the fact that any standard NATO box magazine designed for 5.56x45mm (STANAG 4179) cartridges is compatible with the rifle. That means all of your old AR-15 magazines should be good to go.
For the price, the FN FS2000 tactical is an extremely unique firearm that is both versatile and dependable. It is perfectly suited for personal and defense. Consider the FS2000 for:
- Collections
- Sport shooting
- Match shooting
- Personal protection and self-defense
- Much more…
Where else will you find the FN FS2000 tactical for less than $1514? If you are looking, good luck.
