This mask, manufactured by Swiss Eye, is an excellent example of protective clothing usable for a wide range of outdoor activities. It is constructed from Neoprene and is approximately 2 mm thick. As mentioned, this is a wrap-around mask that uses a Velcro® adjustable strap and provides a “one size fits most” approach. There is a spacious opening to provide an unobstructed airway to the nasal passages, as well as ventilation holes for the mouth and ears to provide breathability.
What’s really unique about this particular mask is the inclusion of integrated goggles that remove the need for any other protective eyewear when using the mask. The goggles are attached to the mask by a series of snap fasteners, which allow them to be easily removed for cleaning or replacement. This method of attachment also means there are no irritating frames, which when combined with the soft face-hugging foam that lines the goggles, provide a comfortable fit. Swiss Eye, a company renowned for their high-quality eyewear, includes an anti-fog/anti-scratch coating on all lenses that ensures your vision will not be obscured during use. Additionally, they are rated for 100 percent UVA, UVB and UVC protection up to 400 nm. In short, this mask will keep your eyes safe.
What is Neoprene and what is it good for?
Neoprene, known chemically as polychloroprene, is a synthetic rubber created by DuPont® in 1930. It was originally marketed in 1931 under the name DuPrene, but was redeveloped due to an unpleasant odor that resulted from the manufacturing process. Neoprene’s reputation for chemical stability, inertness and flexibility despite varying temperatures gives it a wide variety of applications, including automotive belts, cases for electronic appliances, weatherproof clothing, orthopedic braces, masks and much more.
This also makes the material an ideal choice for this mask. It keeps the debris out and the warmth in and is great for the any of the following:
- Motorcyclists
- Mountain/road bikers
- Climbers
- Any other cold weather activities
