There aren't any big scratches. A little sign of wear, but that adds to the realism element. I don't know if it can withstand bullets of today's firearms, but it is a great ww2 collector's item! (Posted on 7/19/12)

Yes it is used, but very little, thats why only 4 stars for quality. Excellent quality steel and leather liner and strap still in good condition. leather could use some Lexol. Look to have been stored for many years, no rust to speak of, paint OK. Mine is dated 1955 .Yes Kevlar helmets are better that steel, but a Kevlar helmet won't stop a 5.56 or 7.62 round either. This helmet is more than worth the $14 that I payed for it. The one that i received had no rust spots or any real wear marks or indications. The internal lining that secures it to your head is somewhat unique, but it works really well. the only thing that they need is a good wipe down, and some leather softener to rehydrate the chinstrap.
