SIG Sauer, Inc. was originally established in 1985 as an American branch of SIG Sauer GmbH, the German arms manufacturer based in Eckernförde, Germany. SIG Sauer, Inc. began as Sigarms Inc. and was originally based in Tysons Corner, Virginia. The company was created for the American importation of German-produced SIG Sauer firearms. In 1990, the company moved its headquarters to Exeter, New Hampshire to accommodate the new manufacture of certain SIG Sauer models in addition to continued importation. It was not until 2007 that the company changed its name to the current incarnation. Today, the company is one of the fastest growing arms manufacturers in the United States. Offering a wide range of products to a wide range of markets including the military, law enforcement and civilians, the company prides itself on their high-quality, reliability and unrivaled performance – qualities that are all readily apparent in the SIG Sauer P226 MK25.
Many shooters already recognize the SIG Sauer P226 as the standard by which all other combat pistols are measured. If we accept this as truth, then the SIG Sauer P226 MK25 is poised to turn the shooting industry on its ear.
As noted, the MK25, which is identical to the pistols carried by U.S. Navy SEALs, includes a number of practical features not found on base model P226s that make an already strong foundation even stronger. The most apparent of these features is the inclusion of SIGLITE® night sights, which make shooting in conditions that are less than ideal much simpler. And speaking of conditions that are less than ideal – conditions in which SEALs may often find themselves – the inclusion of anti-corrosion coatings on all controls and internal components is a welcomed one.
The other features found on the P226 MK25 are a little less practical, but interesting none the less. On the left side of the slide, you will find a gold anchor engraving. On the right side of the slide, you will find the Department of Defense UID, which is the asset tracking method by which the DOD manages its inventory.
The SIG Sauer P226 MK25 features a 4.4-inch barrel and an overall length of 7.7 inches. Weighing in at 34.4 ounces with a magazine – just over two pounds – its relatively light weight combines perfectly with an ergonomic shape that makes carrying this full-size pistol a non-issue. A trigger pull of approximately 10 pounds when fired in double action is joined by a trigger pull of just 4.4 pounds when fired in single action, which provides top-notch performance no matter how you choose to shoot. In addition to all of the aforementioned features, the pistol also features a Nitron®-finished slide. As noted, each pistol comes with three 15-round magazines.
What more is there to say about the SIG Sauer P226 MK25? It is the same pistol carried by the U.S. Navy SEALs – buy it!
