With exclusive licensing from Heckler & Koch, the Walther HK MP5 A5 features a design that is nearly identical to the original MP5A5 while offering an inexpensive alternative to costly civilian-legal, centerfire MP5s. Each of these semi-automatic replicas is chambered for the low-cost .22 LR rimfire cartridge and utilizes a simple blowback operation. Additionally, each pistol ships with a single 10-round magazine, making it legal for ownership in states with high-capacity magazine restrictions. Whether searching for a collectible or a firearm capable of plinking, target shooting and more, the new Walther HK MP5 A5 is available to meet every shooter's needs.
Since its debut in 2006, Umarex USA has been a premium provider of sporting and replica air pistols and rifles. Their world-class products represent a big chunk of several niche communities that range from air guns and airsoft to paintball and tactical accessories. Recently, the company even branched out into tactical rimfire rifles and pistols. In fact, a new partnership with Walther Arms has led to the production of the new Walther HK MP5 A5 platform.
Manufactured by Walther Arms in Germany, imported by Umarex USA and exclusively licensed by Heckler & Koch, the Walther HK MP5 A5 platform is one of Walther Arms' many officially licensed tactical rimfire replicas, a line that kicked off in 2009 with Colt M4s and M16s made in Germany, like the new HK MP5 A5 platform, by Walther Arms. Today, the line encompasses a range of tactical rimfire replicas licensed by renowned arms manufacturers that include Colt, Heckler & Koch, Israel Weapon Industries and Regent Arms.
The Heckler & Koch MP5 is a selective-fire submachine gun that was originally developed during the 1960s following the success of the Heckler & Koch G3. As one of the most widely used submachine guns in the world, over 100 variations of the original MP5 exist. The primary model in this extensive family of firearms, the MP5A2, utilizes a roller-delayed blowback system of operation and fires from a closed bolt. The Walther HK MP5 A5, which is based on the MP5A5, a variant that introduced a retractable buttstock alongside a three-round burst trigger group, is a bit different.
Unlike the submachine gun after which it is patterned, the Walther HK MP5 A5 does not have select-fire capabilities and is in no way designed for use as a personal defense weapon. Instead, this inexpensive .22 LR replica is an excellent choice for training, tactical shooting, plinking and all other forms of recreational shooting.
The Walther HK MP5 A5 features a 16.1-inch barrel (1:13 3/4 inch twist) alongside an overall length that ranges from 26.8 inches to 33.8 inches depending on the stock position – nearly identical to the dimensions found on the original MP5A5. The weight of the rifle is also nearly identical to a true MP5. The alloy receiver joins an authentic NAVY pistol grip trigger pack to give the firearm a light weight of just 5.9 pounds without a magazine, which when combined with the low recoil of the .22 LR rimfire cartridge provides for a firearm that is easily handled by shooters of all sizes and skill levels. Other features include adjustable HK-style sights, authentic sling attachments, a retractable stock, a standard MP5 hand guard and an integral compensator.
