The Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded by Oliver Winchester in 1866 with the design of the Winchester Model 66. Eight years later, operations were expanded to include ammunition production. In the nearly 150 years since, Winchester has successfully sustained its legacy of American tradition, building a name that has become synonymous with qualities that exist in only the finest of businesses. Their commitment to excellence, outstanding pride in their product and innovative spirit has cemented their place at the head of the arms and ammunition industries.
For many, Winchester means fine weaponry. For most, it means ammunition. As a major global supplier of high-quality ammunition, Winchester has long held a reputation for its second-to-none research and development practices as well as their aforementioned innovative spirit, which has yielded some of the world's most popular firearms cartridges. It is also responsible for their inventive lines of ammunition, including the unmatched "Ballistic Silvertip" line of rifle ammunition.
As noted, each box of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip .223 Remington ammunition is a product from Winchester's "Ballistic Silvertip" line. Marketed as a hunting load for varmint and predators, all Winchester Ballistic Silvertip ammunition features innovative bullet technologies alongside the time-tested loads characteristic of one of America's oldest ammunition manufacturers. This state-of-the-art load, like all Winchester ammunition, is manufactured in the United States by the Olin Corporation at the Winchester Centerfire Operations Facility in Oxford, Mississippi. Additionally, all ammunition lots are inspected for quality assurance purposes prior to packaging.
The cartridges found in each box of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip .223 Remington ammunition begin with a boat-tailed Ballistic Silvertip projectile. This unique projectile combines the proven performance of Nosler polycarbonate tips with Winchester's patented Lubalox® black oxide coating for flat trajectories coupled with superior terminal ballistics. Additionally, the heavy tapered jacket is bonded to an alloy lead core for controlled expansion. At impact, the Ballistic Silvertip projectile is driven rearward, promoting violent fragmentation of the tapered jacket and lead core, which in turn causes maximum tissue damage. And because the projectile takes on the shape of a full metal jacket, it also benefits from superb flight characteristics.
Every box of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip .223 Remington ammunition contains 20 non-corrosive, brass-cased cartridges. Each cartridge is loaded with the aforementioned 55 gr Ballistic Silvertip projectile, which provides for both superior terminal ballistics and increased muzzle velocities. In fact, this particular load is capable of producing muzzle velocities that have been observed to travel at speed of up to 3,240 fps.
