Zastava Arms, originally founded in 1853 alongside the production of cannon barrels and howitzers, is a Serbian arms and artillery manufacturer headquartered in Kragujevac, Serbia. With over 150 years of experience in the arms industry and a rich heritage, Zastava Arms states that their philosophy is to not only maintain their place among Europe's top arms manufacturers, but to advance their position by continuing to offer high-quality military, hunting and sporting arms through improving at every level of their operation. In fact, their ISO 9001 and SNO 9000/05 certifications are a testament to their dedication to providing the best product possible. And speaking of quality products, the Zastava Arms AK-47, which is based on the Yugoslavian M70, is one of the manufacturer's most popular firearms.
As noted, the Zastava Arms AK-47 is a civilian version of the Yugoslavian M70. Produced by Zastava Arms for the Yugoslav People's Army beginning in 1970, the Yugoslavian M70 is a Kalashnikov-patterned rifle with a design based on the Soviet AKM. To be more precise, however, the Zastava rifle available today is actually patterned after the Yugoslavian M70B1, a variant of the original M70 that utilizes a stamped receiver rather than the milled receiver characteristic of the M70. Other features characteristic of the M70 that set it apart from other AK-47s include three cooling slots on the fore-end, lightly-colored furniture and the presence of a black rubber buttpad on its fixed stock. Each of these features is readily apparent on the Zastava Arms AK-47.
The Zastava Arms AK-47, each of which is manufactured in the world-famous Zastava Arms factory, features a hammer forged 16 1/4 inch barrel (1:10 inch twist rate) alongside an overall length of 36 1/4 inches. Its heavy-duty stamped receiver boasts a thickness of 1.6 mm and includes a parkerized finish to offer enhanced protection against rust and corrosion as well as increased resistance to wear caused by moving parts. Everything you could possibly ask for in a standard AK-47 is here, only improved. Laminated wood furniture is tossed aside in favor of beautiful stained maple. There is also an ergonomic pistol grip as well as traditional iron sights and a sling mount on the gas assembly. All of this is packed into a rifle that weighs just over seven pounds. As noted, each Zastava Arms AK-47 includes a single 30-round magazine.
Those looking for a Kalashnikov-patterned rifle that is more than serviceable at an affordable price need look no further than the Zastava Arms AK-47. Pictures do not do it justice, and neither do their glowing reviews. You have got to shoot it to believe it, so pick one up today for just $707.55.
