Bought this for an off-grid bag and am not disappointed. I would have been satisfied with just 50 feet but there was a 20% discount on the 100 ft. and why not? My main concern was that a major seller (Rothco) might have produced a lesser quality cord than the original Mil-Spec Type III cord, developed in 1965 by Bell Labs and later adopted by the US Army. Not so. The item came well packaged and there were no breaks or tangles in the cordage. I'm not sure what would be the best gauge for a prepper to have on hand. 550 should hold 72 lbs. (my guess) which should be adequate for just about anything except rope scaling a tall tree. As with any material you buy, be sure to inspect the item for signs of wear or damage.

It has some stretch to it which is great when tying things to trees, fences, etc

A couple more uses for this cord would be a quick tourniquet or belt if needed, for wrapping around limbs to contain animal, etc. This seems like a good purchase for those of us who are going out in the back woods and want something to make traps or other shenanigans to use while they last!
