550 Paracord 100ft - Turquoise - Rothco

I bought this from Rothco in NJ (probably at least a $2 shipping charge for such a small package). The color was just as pictured, the quality seemed good. I don't think this is the highest quality cord out there, but it seems like a decent deal. The pictures of a hurricane on a mountain aside, a big portion of what paracord is used for is really low stress stuff like straps and belts, with relatively low load limits. As such, in the same class of products you'll see stuff like shoelaces that have a significantly lower strength-to-weight ratio. This stuff has a couple hundred pounds tensile strength. That might not be anything to get crazy about, but if you're planning to be outside in high stress environments with any regularity then it is a good way to have the excess capacity ready in case you need it, while also saving you from ever thinking about a failed line or strap while in the middle of something that is anything but a fun adventure in itself. So yeah, good buy, and shipped from the USA.

Thinner than I expected, though strong and useful as cordage. Does the job.

The description for black paracord states: The only black color option for 550 paracord and Rothco never let you down when it comes to 550 paracord. Made in the USA from the original source for 550 cord this 100ft. bundle is one solid nylon rope and not a string with multiple layers of material tied together. That being said 100 feet of the stuff goes by pretty quick so keep that in mind when buying this cord! I just bought a backpack for use as a survival kit. I will include paracord handles for easy removal of the backpack and hopefully will never have to open the package.

It was a little tough to unravel at first, so soaking it in hot water for about 10 minutes helped. Also wrapped a leather scraping around it to keep it from unraveling.

For the price this cord ROCKS. The thicker the cord, the better it is. You can even dye the stuff if you want different colors for certain tasks, like paint a cord red for rappelling or dye the other color blue and turn it into a nice survival/rescue rope.
