I really want to love this knife. It is good quality for the price but the example I received is flawed. The handle and guard are tight so construction seems sturdy and quality. However, the blade's primary grind is non-symmetrical and the secondary grinds are very wide, showing that the primary grind is not thin enough when it reaches the edge. The clip point is not curved as shown in the photo but rather almost straight. Still functional, just not as pretty as advertised. The leather handle is for the most part very well-executed but again, the sanding and beveling near the guard is uneven and asymmetrical. The blade also has a prominent recurve which means it was sharpened poorly at the factory. For these cosmetic flaws I'll give the knife 4 stars. The sheath however is flawless.

I had a Ka-Bar before I bought this knife. After receiving this knife I thought I liked the Ka-Bar better partly because I had to spend so much time getting a good edge on it. Since getting this Case sharp and oiling the handle I have changed my opinion. I like this knife better than the Ka-Bar not much but just enough. Both are really great knives and everyone should own both.

Buy the kabar it is much higher quality. The guard is loose, sloppy leather. It is partially my fault I should have known better than to order a knife from Case they make expensive 2nd rate knives. They put more effort into the sheath and the box than the knife.

The Case XX USMC knife is allegedly made by Ontario for Case. I have my military issue Ontario and I purchased a new Ka-Bar to compare to the Case XX. This is an outstanding knife, not taking anything from the Ka-Bar. The Ka-Bar has an enameled finish to the blade and the Case has a matte parkerized finish. I personally prefer the Case XX after comparing the two. The Case sheath is a heavier piece of leather than the sheath provided with the Ka-Bar. Either knife is an excellent buy, but after comparing the two side by side with my issue knife, if I had to pick, I would choose the Case.

Case doesn't make junk, so I bought their USMC knife, as opposed to the more expensive Ka-Bar, or the less expensive XYZ brands. There is no such thing as a good surprise with a valuable piece of equipment - surprises are normally some type of failure. I'm expecting many years of good service, and no surprises with this knife.
