The Cold Steel Axe Gang Hatchet is one of the finest battle hatchets produced by Cold Steel. With the staff and management of Cold Steel being active in martial arts and the film industry, they took special care to make this Chinese Gang Hatchet as functional as it is visually appealing. There are many Cold Steel innovative aspects of this hatchet including the differentially heat treated drop-forged head - which has a hard edge capable of reaching razor sharpness, but a soft steel body for absorbing impacts. The handle is made from hand picked straight grain American Hickory and is embellished with the Kanji characters for "Axe Gang" to give the axe added appeal.

I bought this throwing hatchet for my son. He did ok with it. But the profile is to thick and the handle to long for the weight of the head.

This is possible the dullest axe I have ever encountered out of the box, The handle is far from straight grain hickory. That said it has potential to be a good axe just with a lot more work then just taking it out of the box. I'd give it one star but it's kinda neat and I feel that is worth a star.

There is a absolutely no way that these are hickory. The handle broke the 1st time unused it. I purchased two and I am very disappointed. Do not buy.

Decent, but thick varnish covered the blade. Likely for protection, but will have to be scraped off prior to sharpening. (Could be sharper out of the box)

Suggest chopping the lowered 2 Kanji designs off for better throwing.

Great starter AXE

bought 6 of these to use at a men's church group event. We had three targets and just over 90 guys at the event. Most had never thrown before. After the event only 2 of the Gang Hatchets had broken handles. To me that wasn't bad. With the full length of the handle Mark a line 185" from the target and that is your starting point. Move forward or backward no more that 6" at a time to dial in sticking the AXE. I would say most of the people that have broken handles are throwing way to hard
Not for beginners

The head is a good strong piece. But since I was a beginner and didn't land it every time on the board, I hit the handle a few too many times. And after only 2 weeks of playing one hour a week the handle cracked off and needed to be replaced. Be careful when buying this ax. It is a good ax but you need to be a good thrower. I repeat not for beginners who are bouncing It off the wall.
