The Cold Steel Axe Gang Hatchet is one of the finest battle hatchets produced by Cold Steel. With the staff and management of Cold Steel being active in martial arts and the film industry, they took special care to make this Chinese Gang Hatchet as functional as it is visually appealing. There are many Cold Steel innovative aspects of this hatchet including the differentially heat treated drop-forged head - which has a hard edge capable of reaching razor sharpness, but a soft steel body for absorbing impacts. The handle is made from hand picked straight grain American Hickory and is embellished with the Kanji characters for "Axe Gang" to give the axe added appeal.
I got the Cold Steel Fever! I want to be like Rick Grimes so I bought this Axe Gang hatchet! Carrrrrl! Where's Caarrrl! Figured I'd be honest. I also like to throw it at Walkers, sticks regularly!!! Carrrrrl!

Nice, sharp head, cheap handle.

I bought this axe primarily for throwing so I kinda expected its handle gonna break like others mentioned before. I like the axe, it is sharp and well-made except the handle that split then broke off completely. I suppose the knob of the handle needs to be covered with a solid protective cap to prevent it from splitting and the shoulder part needs to be somehow strengthened from breakage. It chops well and survived one party, but the next day broke.

Handle will have to be xut down to meet specs if using in WATL

Great axe for beginners who like throwing. I used mine during Winter League for WATL. I did have to cut handle to meet WATL specs. Has stood up great and yet to sharpen.

Great Axe dull as a butter knife

Came shipped loose in a huge box that was nearly destroyed. The axe itself was incredibly dull but it did take a great edge once I sharpened it, the handle is too long for competitive throwing use however.

A great value for those who can haft a axe

For the price you can’t beat it. Many have had issues with the handle so I’ll comment on that. The obvious is if your on target it will not matter . Since we are human and mistakes happen you will break one at some point. Maybe it’s the first throw maybe # 30 who knows. Big deal make or buy a new one. Once upon a time axes didn’t come with handles. Men were expected to haft them themselves. They either selected a pattern from the hardware store and did the minor fitting or some carved their own from staves. It’s a skill that’s not difficult and house handles are like $6 each. Spend $15 on a 4 in hand rasp and several blank handles all problems solved.
Giving this hatchet 1 star because you broke the handle is really lame. It’s shows a generational gap in knowledge that’s a bit embarrassing. $30 for a 1055 hatchet head is a good deal even if it didn’t come with any handle whatsoever. Matter of fact it would be nice if we could buy them without on. All that said this is a well balanced hatchet that’s very easy to throw. If you are not don’t feel like dealing with the handle then buy a estwing or equivalent. I don’t think they are as well balanced and IMO much more difficult to stick. But when they hit the ground they will not break. That’s good because they will hit much more often for a beginner.

It has a very thin profile

it is a very good throwing axe it's got a very thin profile the handle is kind of small going into the axe but if you throw it and stick it it ain't going to break and if it breaks put a new handle in it

Very weak and cheaply made.

These are garbage! I purchased two of these and both handles broke almost immediately after maybe 10-15 throws.

Not just a chucker.

I bought 2 of these @ $20 with the sole purpose of throwing them. These axes could very well double as camp/utility axes in a pinch. I can't speak to their durability (I've only had them a couple of days) but their build quality and edge profile are stellar.

One of the cheapest I got, thew the best. Get a stone to add an edge and good to go. Matt need to trim the handle.
