The Desert Eagle air pistol features a 5.7-inch, smooth-bore metallic barrel alongside an overall length of 11.02 inches – both of which are nearly identical to the specifications of a true Desert Eagle. Additionally, the synthetic slide and frame combine to give the pistol a hefty weight of 2.43 pounds – not quite the bulk of the original but pretty dang close. Other features include a fixed front sight, a windage-adjustable rear sight, a manual thumb safety, an integral Picatinny rail and an authentic checkered grip complete with the Magnum Research, Inc. logo.
As noted, the Desert Eagle air pistol is an air pistol – it is not an airsoft pistol. It is designed to fire .177-caliber (4.5mm) steel pellets and is powered by disposable 12-gram CO2cartridges. Unlike a great majority of air pistols in the Umarex line, however, the Desert Eagle air pistol features an interesting blowback repeater that makes the operation of this air pistol even more realistic than others as it has a moving slide. The Desert Eagle air pistol uses eight-shot pellet clips, which are inserted into the slide that opens via a realistic slide release. The CO2 cartridges are inserted into the grip of the gun, and provide the pistol with a source of compressed air, which acts as a propellant that is released with each pull of the amazingly realistic single-action/double-action trigger. This particular air pistol is capable of discharging projectiles at a velocity of up to 425 fps.
