The Dutch Army has been a member of NATO since the inception of NATO. With NATO membership and an advanced economy, the Dutch Army has an air component that is known as the Royal Dutch Air Force. Soldiers and air crew of the Dutch Army are assigned typical NATO style uniforms, which include the issuance of flight jackets for use when aboard Dutch Army air craft.
This Authentic Dutch Army Black Flight Jacket is part of the uniform of all Dutch soldiers who serve in the Dutch Royal Air Force. Manufactured to strict military standards, the style of this jacket is immediately recognized as being that of a flight jacket. The Dutch have taken this design one step further and added a zippered-in removable quilted liner. With the liner zippered in, your new flight jacket will be warm enough for cold winter days. With the liner removed, your flight jacket will be perfect for spring and fall weather where it is cool but not necessarily cold.
Just got the jacket, and it appears to be new, unissued. No "surplus smell". Looks like it is right off the rack. No military insignia, just a nice bomber jacket. It is very well made, and should be quite warm with the quilted liner in, and a nice spring/fall jacket without the liner (It's July in Pennsylvania, so not much opportunity yet to try it). As stated in the add, it is a cotton blend (polyester?), and is not the leather or vinyl that the photo appears to show. It should be water resistant, but probably not waterproof.
