The Dutch Army Mess Kit is one of the best made military surplus mess kits we have ever imported. Most mess kits sacrifice on either volume of the pans or the length and quality of the handles. This is not a problem or issue with the Dutch mess kit, the volume of each piece is considerably larger than other military mess kits and the stainless steel handles are long and strong.
If you spend any amount of time in the woods or enjoy camping, this mess kit from the Dutch army is one of the best choices you can make. You may find the quality to be so good that you find uses for the mess kit other than preparing food. The stainless steel design makes each pan optimal for doing things like mixing liquids, storing small parts for cleaning, and a number of other possibilities.
The British and Malaysians use kits like these to this day and they fill them up with water to heat their MRE entrees. I prefer this to flameless ration heaters that never do the trick. Also with a small liner you don't have to clean it out when putting food into these. Awesome little kits, you can even pack your food in this and put it in the pack!
I got excited about these being stainless steel as stainless is heavier, holds up better over a hot fire, cleans up in the dishwasher, etc., etc. But alas. These are aluminum. The size is good, the shape is functional, and they work with other kit I have, so I am going to hold on to these, but gosh, I was really counting on stainless steel.
