The French Army has utilized wool for the construction of their army blankets for hundreds of years and continues to do so currently. Wool is a superior fabric for use in blankets due to several of its natural characteristics. Providing insulation and moisture wicking means any wool blanket is going to retain heat without making you feel damp and it is more durable than other natural fibers like cotton.
There are several different types of wool, each with distinct properties that make it more or less desirable. The French Army uses wool that has more of a soft and less itchy feel to it for production of blankets. This makes any French Army surplus wool blanket among the most comfortable to use as you are not experiencing the abrasive contact that other military surplus wool blankets have. With this particular blanket being produced for use in French Army hospitals, extra care was taken to ensure that it was more comfortable than a field use wool blanket. What it amounts to is one of the nicest, most comfortable, and genuine 100% wool blankets we have imported in a very long time.

Good to see these back in stock. The one I received is perhaps a bit lighter than most of the similar green French blankets also sold here. It is none-the-less a heavier blanket than the US military blanket. Quite warm and well made. White may not be the best color for dragging around outdoors but it is a good addition to any camp or cabin.
