When you first pick up one of the French Army M1929 bags you will immediately recognize it as a vintage French Army bag. This identification is primarily from the type of tanned leather that the French Army used in the 1950s for all of their soft goods. Leather of this type was primarily used for its durability in the high temperature and high humidity environments of French overseas colonies. The M1929 bag has a tough canvas exterior that from age has faded into a nice vintage green/brown that will certainly have appeal to collectors. The rivets and leather also show typical signs of aging for this type of material. The interior is lined with leather which would have provided a degree of protection from the harsh environment for the important equipment that was carried inside of the bag. Overall this bag is a great example of French Army history from the turbulent 1950s which was a time of unrest in the colonies where this bag would have saw service.
