The German military tricot shirt is a simple shirt that features a 100 percent baumwolle, or "cotton," construction alongside a classic olive drab coloring. The biggest feature found on this shirt is its inclusion of a quarter-length zipper at the neckline, which provides for either a traditional folded-collar look or a turtleneck. As it features a tricot weave, there is very little vertical stretch, but some give horizontally.
This particular style of tricot shirt has been used by the German military for a decade or more and has won universal praise from soldiers. Citing it as being comfortable, versatile, and performing under battlefield conditions this shirt has become a favorite of both active duty and veteran soldiers in Germany. Now that this shirt has been sold as government surplus, it has made its way to the United States where it has become just as popular.
