The German navy, known in Deutschland as the marine, is part of the unified armed forces, or Bundeswehr. The German navy finds its roots with the Reichsflotte, or Empire fleet. This was the first navy to exist under the tricolor flag and was established in 1848 during the March Revolution. Today, the German navy is a permanent participant in all four NATO Maritime Groups and is involved in several anti-terrorist operations.
The full-zip closure provides for easy on and off while the snap fasteners at the cuff make adjustments quick and simple and ensure that undesired elements are kept at bay. In addition to two slash pockets at the waist, the jacket includes two large zippered pockets on each side of the chest. Additionally, there are mesh vents sewn into each underarm to allow the escape of body heat, which serves to keep you dry and comfortable all day long. And just to add a bit of class, each shoulder is adorned with a fancy epaulet, under which the tricolor German flag resides.

Bought the Gr 10 (5'5-5'9, chest 43", US XL). Stylish, pockets are great, and on the whole it's a good fit. A little snug for me (5'11, 160 pounds), but it's good motivation to start jogging again. My girlfriend fits in it a little better than me so no complaints.
Like another reviewer, the sizes are really off! I ordered an XL as well. I'm of average build, but I'm going to assume that the men of Germany are roughly 5'5 with abnormally shorr arms and waists that would make a size 2 Victorian woman in a corset look fat! Nice jacket though. Maybe if a travelling carnival comes through town and the emaciated thin man needs a jacket, I can donate it to him.
Ordered what was supposed to be an XL (Gr. 10) but I can barely get my arms into the sleeves and zipping it up is not remotely possible. A real dud, except the price is so low that I am basically out a can of soda. Would have been a great jacket if the sizing had been right.
Make sure to do a little research on german sizing and you'll have a wonderful jacket!
The high collar will keep out the wind, especially when coupled with a scarf! I wear mine with a shemagh and have no problems in fall weather. Great for layering!
Because I like it so much, gave one to my brother-in-law. Ordered another, it seems never been used in very new condition. Love it.
Fit, finish and level of wear on my example were all excellent (just a tiny fading in the fabric to show it wasn't brand new). Be advised: If you try to remove the German flag patches - they are sewn on with very small, very tight stitching that is difficult to loosen if you don't want to damage the jacket (and you don't!). Small needle holes will be left behind when you are done no matter how well you perform this delicate surgery. I actually like the 2-way zipper as it opens up the jacket bottom when sitting. The pockets are good and the cuffs and collar are functional/comfortable. Good enough to be seen in public in, and also a great work jacket.
Awesome value. Fantastic fabric and build quality, plus it looks surprisingly fashionable (and much darker in color, almost black), and is very wind resistant. I would wear this all the time if I rode a motorcycle. The zipper can be a bit of a pain, but it's very stout. Seriously, for $5, you can't go wrong, as long as you're careful to buy the right size.
A GREAT ADDITION TO MY GERMAN DECK PANTS. WELL MADE. SIMPLE DESIGN. GREAT FIT. THE POCKETS HELP KEEP THINGS SECURE.
These German Navy jackets are amazing; stylish, well-made, functional and cheap. As others have said, make sure you look up your size correctly. German military sizing can be rather complicated, but if you take the time to do the research you'll come away with a unique lightweight jacket that fits you perfectly.
My only nitpick with these jackets is the infuriating double zipper pulls on the jacket, making it hard to get on and off. But once it is on, it looks fantastic. It also does not look distinctly military if you remove the German flag patches on the arms, which can be another plus.
All in all, if you take the time to find out your size, there are few better ways to spend 5 dollars. They are easily worth many more times that. You won't be disappointed!
I lucked out and got a real nice example. No loose threads or any other problems to speak of, clean, and the typical surplus scent was barely there. I think the jacket works best if you're wearing layers, i.e. a sweater or hoodie underneath. Just figure out your size carefully (Google helps) and it should fit properly. A steal at 5 bucks.
Fit and finish of mine is good, but not great. Some loose threads here and there but overall a solid jacket. Fits like a glove, if I was 20lbs heavier it would be uncomfortably tight. Much warmer than advertised, I've worn mine comfortably on days several degrees below zero. It looks sharp, I've gotten compliments. This jacket would still be a steal at 4x the price asked here.
