Old stock (40 years old) was worn and peeling so this was a big improvement.
I'm 5'8" so wish I had gone with the shorter stock (this was same as original) to make the gun sit closer so would suggest that to others. Padded stock is better than original but you still feel the kick even with 2 3/4 shells.
