Decent backup or "emergency" compass

For less than $10 this is a very inexpensive and lightweight compass. It does have decent sight-lines and good luminous markings. However, due to its lack of any lanyard or other retention, this would be a compass to take with you in a pack. I cannot imagine this would be very useful for orienteering with such an inexpensive and lightweight unit, but as a backup or as an "emergency" compass (eg you're stuck and have to orientate by some feature), it's worth the small cost.

Solid for basic compass functions

If you don't have a compass on you all the time this should work fine. It has an adequate bezel and faces North-South-East-West, which should be plenty for hiking and backpacking. If you are planning on trying to do some complicated triangulation stuff with this compass or are an experienced user you may want to try something else. This was only $10 though, so if you break it the cost of the compass will be nothing. I'm just putting this in my bug out bag.

As described... not USGI though

This item is not USGI. But it is accurate in all the ways that count for navigation in the great outdoors, and even as an articulation device for someone who is missing a few inches from their left leg... no one said navigation was gonna be easy, but I think this compass does the trick! Pros- cheap and light weight. Doesn't add any appreciable weight or space to my rucking gear Cons- slightly harder to manipulate the 'rotate' function when a little bracing hand is available in the operating arm

Nice but.....

This compass is made well and I like the quality of the pins. However, the whole is overly heavy. If I wanted a solid compass that was heavy I would have bought a big heavy weight. Also I don't think that having a solid top to the compass makes any thing more durable. I've seen solid compasses crack and twist in the wind because they were solid, so it seems a solid top doesn't do much for me in the design department. I would think they could design a better model. The only reason I give it four stars is because I think they can make a better one for the same price or less. Just not sure I would trust it to keep me on the right path. Just to keep my direction heading to my destination.

Buy with your mind closed. It is for $9 so it isn't gimmicky.

Just a compass for the price but very solid built compass with lens system which is the major advantage for people unaccustomed to use this kind of equipment.

This is a great product and I love it. It's very accurate and easy to use. The only thing is that you need to be careful when using it because it can slip out of your hands easily if not held tightly enough. Other than that, this is a must have for any hiker or camper.

I have used this type of compass before and like it. The only thing I did not like was the way the needle swings on its axis when you turn it. It is not as smooth as some others I have used.
