Great Knife for the price!
Review by Keepshooting Customer
For the money this is an awesome knife. The fit and finish on mine was great. No wobble in the blade or handle, and everything was where it should be. I didn't find any edge problems either, and there was a good bevel on it. Mine came pretty dull, and needed to be oiled, sharpened, and sharpened again. Mine was also not 1095 carbon, which is the standard for this blade steel. Mine is 1075 steel, which is softer and won't hold an edge as well. But the factory edge is pretty good, and mine was sharp enough out of the box to chop paper and cardboard, and even trim a tiny bit of pine wood. Overall, I am happy with this purchase, and it will probably be a good survival/camping knife.

Just the ticket for a good quality chopper. For wood work. Its my backup chopper if I loose or wreck my crkt e odi. Plus my kids fight for it. Like it was in the navy seals or something

One heavy ax
Review by Keepshooting Customer
You will need two hands to use this, but what a great tool! I bought it to use for splitting big limbs and other stuff around the property. A friend has one and I saw him using it and I was like, hell yeah, I need one of those. Very sharp out of the box, but can easily be put to a razor edge. Good weight and balance. I could not believe how easy it was to chop through 10” thick limbs. It will hack, but be sure to keep your legs. Great knife. Don’t think twice, just buy it. And while you’re at it buy one for your friend too.

Very solid! And surprisingly sharp
Review by Keepshooting Customer
Ontario TAKES CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. Bought this on sale on Black Friday and I have to say I'm impressed. Very sharp, nice quality! 4 1/2 star because this does need some TLC out of the box and there are no edges ground or otherwise, you will have to put some work into it if you want to use it. Other than that this is one bad a* Bowie knife! Don't be scared of buying from Ontario, I will be getting another very soon, most likely their tomahawk!

Excellent camping and fighting knife
Review by Keepshooting Customer
I own a similar (though smaller) Ontario fixed blade that I love, so I was eager to try out this one. My first impression was that it's about the size of a long axe. That impression was only slightly incorrect, because the grip is about 6 inches shorter than that of an axe, and I wouldn't recommend chopping down a tree with this thing. However, it fits the hand very well and makes an excellent cutting tool, being capable of easily shearing through smaller logs and bushes. I had a 1.5 inch branch sticking out of a small pine, and the blade cut through it with ease. As for self defense applications, I wouldn't rely on it to defend yourself against any dangerous criminals, unless you had some backup or your life depended on you killing someone right then and there. However, I think it would be quite effective in getting the upper hand on a would-be mugger. That grip, while short, feels very secure in the hand, so I can easily imagine that a two handed grip could be very effective. The back is a bit concave, which would be a natural way to grip the knife, though it might not be comfortable for those with thin or small hands. This might be an excellent last ditch weapon for the camp, the wilderness, or anywhere where something larger would be cumbersome or inappropriate. As with my other experience with the company, the knife is excellent quality and appears to be well made, right down to the very rugged sheath. If you're not afraid of taking care of business with the very big knife in your hand, then I would recommend this knife. The sawback would be a very effective weapon in the hand, but also a handy feature in a survival situation. And of course, you can use it to split kindling if need be, but the saw is not so toothed that you couldn't make other useful cuts with it. There is a minor amount of fretwork at the hilt, and it's barely noticeable. If I could, I would pay $50 for this, as it has very much exceeded my expectations. It has become my EDC knife for its ability to

Good blade. Handle issues...!
Review by Keepshooting Customer
Nice blade and okay fit and finish. The stacked handles is really awkward, especially for chopping and is only slightly better than bad. Get the Bark River Koosi Tooki if you want a larger and good feeling bushcraft knife with a longer blade and you want the Spetznaz handle shape then get that. It has slightly better quality and a different blade but it's much more costly for about the same knife... I think this blade and design is a fantastic but the added complexity for knives and the extra overall cost and weight doesn't quite warrant a fantastic plus and that to me, is a disappointment... I have one with the bowie style handle which was nice and better but the stacked handles seems very fragile and would need constant and very often refinishing. I'd rather the different but more usable traditional 3 layer pinky/thumb on top, index finger handle... Especially when going back into the brush or needing to dig out that one fire starting kindling with an extra pound of leverage... Good for cold and crud, bad in dirt and good enough in moderate conditions for a survival/bushcraft use... For utility work I still like my ESEE or Buck is better but not in Canada as its US and can't get here... Went to 6 different sporting/outdoor stores in Vancouver and they said we don't sell them here... Hmmm ...! I like a knife sharp as its going to be in the dirt for a couple years at least and in cold/moist dirt, well most any time of year in Canada...

Replaces several camp tools
Review by Kamesha J.
I like camping/backpacking tools that can be used for more than one purpose and this huge chopper fits the bill. It's almost 10" long and it's 1/4" thick and has stood up to all the abuse I've thrown at it...including using it to dig with. It can and has been used as a brush clearing machete, a general camp knife, spade, hatchet and for single combat with a bear. The bear didn't have one, but he liked it so much that after letting him use it for a while we wound up sitting around the campfire drinking beer and grilling hamburgers. He says he's stopping by the house in spring with the kids.
What more could anyone want from a knife than being able to use it to make new friends with?

Heavy duty beast
Review by Dacia P.
I really like the size of this knife. It is slightly blade heavy, with a very good handle. Mine arrived with a less than stellar edge. It basically had a machete edge. It took hours on a 250 grit diamond plate to work it into a knife edge. Once the bevel was established normal progression of grits began. The last two inches below the tip took forever to get sharp. I thought I was honing some alien super steel. I could not achieve a hair popping edge. Sharp but not super sharp.
I wasn't very keen on the large cross guard. It prevented me from utilizing real estate in that area. I took a hacksaw and a grinder to mine. The cross guard is made from very hard steel. Once shaped, it was painted with krylon gold spray paint. Removing the upper section of the cross guard made a huge difference. Now the blade can be choked up on.
I like the knife. Fit and finish are on point. Only one issue. Ontario, should upgrade the factory edge. It is really the only negative aspect of this knife.
If the honing difficulties are indicative of quality, then this knife is gonna be a good one. I would recommend this knife for the collection.

I received my Bowie yesterday and today I've been splitting water oak and white oak 3 to 5 inches in diameter with no problem at all and the edge is still sharp this was a very good purchase and I highly recommend this knife you will be satisfied with this Bowie it's really good quality made in the USA

I would feel BA in the Kitchen with this.
Review by Dorise Q.
The edge was super dull and not universal or even edge. If you are looking for a Bowie Knife this is not it at all. The back of the knife is nothing like the Bowie knife. So one is left with a 15+inch chef knife with fighting guard not a fighting/utility knife. I am going to use it for cooking while camping and buy a real Bowie Knife somewhere else.

Good Bowie
Review by Yosef K.
I went into this knowing that the blade steel is now 1075 HC instead of 1095 HC. That is fine with me because it will be less brittle when I am using it. Don't get me wrong, if you heat treat 1095 HC properly it will stand up to the task just as good, but I don't know how this company heat treats their steels so I feel safe with this steel. I also knew it would come with a Chinese made nylon sheath, but it seems good(would be nice to have a leather one though). I saw reviews on the edge geometry being off, which worried me but I got lucky on mine. Way better than my Cold Steel kukri; that thing was way off. I am pretty satisfied with this.

Not a very big "knife" guy. I carry a reasoned one at work for work but this just looked cool and would be something different amongst my things. I knew the measurements but it just resonated at being freeking HUGE when it arrived. WOW. I'm impressed. "thats' a knife" well done.

OKC's Quality Control Has Gone Way Downhill
Review by Kayti A.
This is a good knife. It's a strong chopper, with a great grip, & a great MOLLE compatible sheath w/ hard polymer insert (despite what some say). OKC lowered the carbon steel type from 1095 to 1075. While less expensive steel, that doesn't personally bother me, because I feel 1075 is a better steel type for the intended use of this knife. It's supposed to be a tough chopper, not fighting knife. Unfortunately, my knife arrived so dull, I can't even cut paper w/ it. I can't cut my fingers either, even when I slide them along the blade w/ pressure. I'm sure if I applied enough pressure, they'd eventually get cut. That's not the point. A $60 knife shouldn't arrive w/ such a poor factory edge, that the user has to spend hours sharpening before use. It's poor quality control, & purposeful cost cutting. I can only recommend this knife if you have quality sharpening equipment, & you know what you're doing. You can't just expect to take it camping after it arrives. It requires work first. To note, I emailed OKC about the full factory edge, & asked if they could help me out. They never got back to me, & no one answers their customer service number. They make you leave a message, but they never call you back. I'm unimpressed w/ the company.

Great camp knife
Review by Abbey O.
The only reason I took off a star was because the first one I received was underwhelming. Dull, and not like this isn't bad I can sharpen this up on my stones dull, like butter knife dull. The coating on it was messed up, wavy looking, with some tiny bits missing in some places. The replacement I received is about perfect. Pretty sharp for a large chopper type knife, serviceable. Finish was much cleaner, no noticeable flaws. I dunno maybe the first one had been used, kind of suspected. Very happy with the replacement and would highly recommend. Make sure to oil it up right out of the box. 1075 will rust quick if you are not caring for it.

My new favorite camp knife.
Review by Emanual E.
Love this knife. The sturdiness is solid, the blade came pretty dual and it took awhile to sharpen it. But now it's pretty sharp. It's heavy and you feel it. But it makes short work when it comes to chopping. Great quality especially for the price. It looks like it should hold up to some heavy usage with the thickness and how solid it feels. Great job.
