Ontario Knife Company SP-5 Survival Bowie with Sheath
4.478
Over the years since the SP5's sunset, OKC had received a steady stream of requests to bring back this classic bowie knife design. But when we received word that an SP5 had survived a house fire with the blade and coating in nearly perfect condition, and the owner asked us to bring back the bowie, we knew what we had to do. Rising from the ashes by demand, it's the return of an American legend. The quarter inch thick, 10 inch blade will be your most faithful and fearsome companion.

Ontario Knife Company SP-5 Survival Bowie with Sheath
Great for a bush knife. Hefty for bowie and very, very sharp. This knife could go for hours on the battlefield and just look badass and perform to. The sheath was better than I expected for 30$. Very rugged. Would definitely buy again.

Be careful
Review byKeepshooting Customer
It's big and it has a hefty feel to it. Very comfortable in the hand but I do not think it would be easy to conceal. My EDC would have to stay in the truck if I had to run into a convenience store for anything. The handle could also be a little slick in certain situations. Great workhorse for camping. Not too big or small.

Review byKeepshooting Customer
This was purchased as a replacement for the Ka-Bar Screwpac I lost in a car break in. It does everything I needed it to do. Solid in my hands and fits my hand great. Good edge, comes very dull, and a good working edge. A really good all around bush knife. I would buy again if it gets lost. But for now I am very happy.

Good Knife at a Good Price. But Be Careful when you hold it.
Review byKeepshooting Customer
I purchased this Sp-5 knife to go on the Sp-2 backpack carry by ESEE and couldn't be happier. The knife feels great in the hand. It has a good, heavy heft and the butt seems to add enough weight to help it keep its point and penetrate the material it's being placed against. I like that it came with a fairly sharp blade and with the sheath you can carry the knife in either left or right hand and the butt of the knife can double as a striker. The handle has enough space between the tang and the handle that your hand won't slip. But be careful. It is VERY sharp. The coating will also rub off if used improperly and exposure to the elements will take its toll. The end result will still be an amazing knife that will do what you need it to. Just keep it from going in contact with your hand if you have a tendency to scratch yourself or have bumps and cuts on your hands from using other equipment or chafing. It's easy to hold and operate one-handed and the finger grooves provide the same traction you'd get with hardwood. And I love the stacked leather handle and the metal cross guard. If you like the 1095 Cro-V handle of the military aircrew survival knife or Ka-Bar military digger but can't stand the hard sheath or sharp knife, buy this knife. The two match perfectly. And with this you get the handle AND the sharpness you like.

Tough Knife, needs sharpening. Well Worth the Price.

Shipping is fast and product arrived as described. This Ontario SP-5 is as advertised, a beefy piece of tough tool steel. If the purpose of your buy is self defense, this SP-5 won't disappoint. It won't break or bend if it strikes bone, however a good sharpness would be helpful. There are already 2 gnarly dings and I haven't even used it for a purpose. Also worth noting, this doesn't have an "edge geometry" and isn't really for show either, its for utility purposes and to cut wood, that's it.

The knife arrived in excellent condition, blade and the sheath both in new unused condition. Would highly recommend this purchase.

Well worth the money. Durable steel, strong grip. Very satisfied with the purchase. Very sharp, I put a finger through the leather sheath, cut a piece out and made it into a lanyard. Love the look and feel. Very nice tool and well worth it

Review byKeepshooting Customer
It's OKC what else can I say it will get dirty no doubt and hold a edge. Witch knife is suppose to do it does. If your looking for a fixed Bowie with little back round like sights no such thing. The edge on the top and even on the pommel should help you hit you intended target for the tip of the knife. You can even rest you for and make shavings for starting fires. So many other tools avalable this has its place

Great knife
Review byKeepshooting Customer
I love this knife. It's a beast and holds its edge very well. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars was because the handle needs to be wrapped or covered in some way as it is very slippery.

This is a great knife. I bought it to replace my old one that was stolen. It's very sharp and has held up well so far. The sheath could be better but it does what it needs to do.

A buck hoodlum sheath also fits but is bulky with the pocket on it but it's shorter than the included sheath . Definitely recommend

Wow, what a knife!
Review byVirgina U.
Finally grabbed an OKC SP5 after wanting one for years. What a cool Bowie style blade in the narrower profile of the CS Trailmaster and Marbles Trailmaker except with a more pronounced clip. For such a large 1/4" thick blade it wields very light and quick. Handle is extremely comfortable and you can chop for days with it. These are made with tougher 1075 carbon steel now and you will not break this guy.

The nylon sheath is the typical Ontario oversized quality piece with molle attachment options. While these are good sheaths, I do not like them because they are too big. I highly recommend picking up a new old stock Marbles Trailmaker leather sheath for 25 bucks. Its like they were made for this knife - see my pics.

You can't go wrong with Ontario
Review byLenae V.
Ontario SP5 came today. This is a quality time tested working knife. Good 1095 steel and comfortable handle. I wish the tang was visible through to the pommel like the RTAKII but it is full tang. Came reasonable sharp. All it took was a buff up with a diamond and ceramic rod. Good value

A Very Good Choice for Serious Camping Enthusiasts
Review byAmon V.
This knife covers almost all of your wilderness/working needs…… Large flat ground blade cones sharp, is great for fire wood processing, chopping and even processing large game. Large blade, very grippy in the hand yet lightweight and won’t add to you hiking weight burden like others in its size/class…….The sheath is more than adequate and safe while providing good retention and ease of movement while you go about your daily tasks…The sheath design allows for many ways to carry by adding some extra parachord. If this knife was made by any other well known company they would charge twice as much for it. This knife is an incredible value for the money.

Didn’t come with back knife
Review byEtienne C.
My other two Ontario SP5 knives have a back blade for thicker things like large branches. This one came with no blade. Where the blade should be is about 3/16 inches thick. I returned it (paying for the return) to get the problem corrected and was sent the same thing. The front blade is fine but missing the back. I kept it rather than paying another $9 to shop it back again. If you want it the way it should be. Do not buy this one!

Indestructible
Review byDamion U.
I've owned one of these for over 15 years. Mine is beat to crap. It's the big bad knife that will do all the dirty jobs and come back for more. I actually used mine to cut sections of galvanized air duct and it was rather easy. Can't wear it out. Glad I like it.

Review byDerris X.
Came dull as a butter knife , the clip point of the blade was canted to one side (not straight) . and it feels very disappointing in the hand. my Marine raider Bowie is a beast compared to this. This is To light in hand for a knife of this size.

Large BUTTERKNIFE!
Review byShiela J.
This knife was so dull from the factory it could not cut cold butter! (-2 stars). Horrible CS! (-1) I'm still waiting for supervisor to call me back 5 days & counting ..pretty sure they will never follow up. I tried to buy USA, these NY folks should be ashamed of sending out knives like this. Like buying a car you have to push off the lot to the nearest gas station because they gave it to you empty! So unless you like sharpening NEW dull/unfinished edge knives? Save your money & buy a Cold Steel, Condor, ESEE, Kabar, Kershaw camp 10/14, etc.. that all come razor sharp. I spent a hour with stones & steels to get a sharp edge on this thing ...so I will keep it, but this is the last knife I'll ever buy from OKC. Should they ever bother to contact me I will happily update this review.
