It was in 1949 that Sturm, Ruger & Company, Incorporated, more commonly known as Ruger, was founded by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm. Since then, the Connecticut-based arms manufacturer has been recognized as a leader in centerfire and rimfire handguns and rifles and renowned for their reputation regarding both reliability and durability. It is that reputation that leads the company to produce firearms like the Ruger 10/22. More importantly, it is that very same reputation that allows the company to build on successful firearms like the 10/22 and produce variations like the Model 1284, which is surely seeking to replicate the performance of its predecessors in terms of both quality and popularity.
Ruger and Sports South teamed up with TAPCO® in order to produce the Ruger 10/22 Model 1284. For those that may be unaware, TAPCO® is a manufacturing company that began over 25 years ago and now specializes in aftermarket firearms products that are marked by their remarkable quality and backed by a lifetime warranty. At the heart of this particular model is the TAPCO® fusion stock system. We will get to that in a moment, but first, specifications.
Just as you would expect, the legendary Ruger 10/22 action is back and housed within a rifle that features an 18.5-inch barrel (1:16-inch twist rate) and an overall length of 37 inches. The stainless steel barrel is nestled in the TAPCO® fusion stock, a black composite stock system that has an adjustable length of pull thanks to the M4-style, six-position adjustable stock. The rifle also includes a TAPCO® SAW-style pistol grip with an internal storage compartment. Also, like other 10/22s, the Model 1284 is one of the most modular rifles in existence. The TAPCO® fusion stock includes both an upper and lower MIL-STD 1913 rail for the attachment of tactical equipment. The lower rail, when not in use, is easily concealed by a removable cover. Other features include a push-button manual safety, the extended magazine release and an iron sight system that features a folding rear sight alongside a gold bead front sight. As noted, each rifle includes a 25-round Ruger BX-25 magazine with optimally-angled feed lips to provide for reliable feeds every time. All of this is packed into a rifle that weighs just 5 pounds.
The popularity of the Ruger 10/22 was almost immediate. Since its introduction nearly 50 years ago, it has done nothing but increase in popularity and it shows no signs of stopping. If you have yet to experience the sheer joy of owning and firing a Ruger 10/22, consider grabbing the Model 1284 today. This rifle is a great choice for:
