The Ruger SR-22® rifle is an autoloading rimfire rifle that benefits from the utilization of a reliable blowback operation. As expected, it is chambered for the inexpensive .22 LR rimfire cartridge. The Model 1236, available here today, is like all SR-22® rifles in that it pairs the legendary Ruger 10/22® action with an all-aluminum chassis based on the Ruger SR-556®. Its 16.12-inch barrel is stuffed into a lightweight package that is manageable by shooters of all sizes and skill levels, and its modularity and reliability make it the perfect choice for a range of shooting applications. Additionally, each rifle includes one Ruger BX-1, the original 10-round rotary magazine designed specifically for the Ruger 10/22®.
Ruger SR-22® Rifle
It was in 1949 that Sturm, Ruger & Company, Incorporated, more commonly known as Ruger, was founded by William B. Ruger and Alexander McCormick Sturm. Since then, the Connecticut-based arms manufacturer has been recognized as a leader in centerfire and rimfire handguns and rifles, and renowned for their reputation regarding both reliability and durability. It is that reputation that leads the company to produce firearms like the Ruger 10/22®. More importantly, it is that very same reputation that allows the company to build on successful firearms like the original 10/22® and produce modernized variations like the new Ruger SR-22® rifle, with which they seek to replicate the performance of its predecessors in terms of both quality and popularity while moving it forward into a new age.
Since its introduction nearly 50 years ago, the Ruger 10/22® has become, inarguably, America's favorite .22 LR rifle. The semi-automatic, rimfire rifle features a legendary action based on a blowback operation, and is available in a countless number of configurations. And because they are also highly customizable, the platform continues to garner support as time wears on. Not to mention, production has exceeded well over five million units since the platform was introduced.
Today, Ruger seeks to improve upon the wildly successful 10/22® platform with their new Ruger SR-22® rifle. As noted, the SR-22® rifle combines the legendary reliability of the 10/22® platform with the modularity of their SR-556® platform by embedding a 10/22® action inside an all-aluminum chassis that is based on the Ruger SR-556® and manufactured to custom Ruger specifications by Nordic Components, Inc. The result is the autoloading Ruger SR-22® rifle, marked by its affordability, reliability and a wealth of features that make it an attractive option for shooters with all backgrounds.
As noted, the legendary Ruger 10/22® action is back and housed within a rifle that features a 16.12-inch barrel (1:16-inch twist rate) and an overall length of 34.38 inches. The hammer-forged barrel and stainless steel receiver are nestled into a unique all-aluminum chassis that features AR-style ergonomics similar to those found on the company's SR-556® platform. As both the barrel and receiver feature a blued finish, they are protected from rust and other corrosion. Shooters should be pleased to hear that the Ruger SR-22® rifle is one of the most modular rifles in existence, ready to be tailored specifically to the needs of the lucky individual that purchases it. Other features include rapid deploy sights that are adjustable for both windage and elevation, a Picatinny rail optic mount, a Hogue® Monogrip® pistol grip, a six-position telescoping stock and a round hand guard. As noted, each rifle includes a 10-round Ruger BX-1 magazine with optimally-angled feed lips to provide for reliable feeds every time. All of this is packed into a rifle that weighs just 6 1/2 pounds.
