The expiration date is 4 years. In a quick test, it sprayed over 10 feet in a focused fairly narrow pattern. The flip up cover is very easy and quick to get your thumb under. The only problem is that I tend to cover up the front spray nozzle with my fingers. This is long so may be too big for some. Diameter fits good in the hand. Lucky, I have not had to use this in a defensive situation.

I got this for protection when I walk my dogs in the neighborhood, hoping I will never have to use it on other larger aggressive dogs who's owner are not responsible enough to keep them in their own yard.

Received 02/19, product expires 03/21. 25 months is on the low-end of acceptable IMO.

A little large for my purse but I wanted a spray that had the ability to shoot long distance and this is it. You need to test it occasionally to keep it working.
