The SP-8 is one of my favorite knives

I've owned several of these over the years and have never been disappointed. It's heavy enough to do some serious work but not so heavy as to be uncomfortable when hiking or camping. I keep one in each vehicle and one in my pack.
Great product

I bought this as a replacement for my Gerber. It's heavier than the Gerber but it feels more solid and has a better edge.

True suvival machete

This survival tool is very similar to my Dad's World War II folding Air Crew 'bail-out" survival machete(in picture) .
Although the SP8 is NOT a folder they share comparable quality, length tweight. Neither is a true 'swing wildly' jungle palm branches type machete.
SP-8 is more of a do-all tool knife/hatchet/dig/pry device.
The sawback IS NOT a 'notching blade' or a wood saw.
Its design with wide kerf is for batoning which keeps baton stick from bouncing back or forth during blade batoning technique. Secondarily it serves to hack out of aluminum skin such as aircraft or thin boat skin. You use a hack/slice motion.

I use mine to prune suckers off my apple trees (and daughter LOL!) and splitting kindling off logs

I also take when on canoe trips or remote van camping or ATVing (to heavy for backpacking).
Much more useful the axe/hatchet.

If you want a true military grade tool
For most shtf situations. This is it!

I find the sheath to be of great quality and mount options too
Works well

Nice and heavy weight, not sure why some people are upset with the thick saw back and say it doesn't really work, it works great! Great as a meat tenderizer! You could break arm bones by smashing them with it too, or flip it around and hack into the bones. Over all, I think I'd survive with it lol
Well worth the money.

Nothing to dislike about this beast. Bought it for chopping small to medium sized branches for kindling when camping at my vacation property. If you are expecting something thin and spindly, look elsewhere. Looks like a good 1/4" thick at the spine, tapering gradually to the edge. This means lots of chunky goodness behind the blade edge and while that extra weight can be felt when in hand, it means this is ideal for batoning and splitting larger pieces of wood. Seems well balanced and well made. IMO this is a stellar value for your dollar.

I wish I could give this thing 6 stars. I have beat this thing up pretty hard and it is still standing strong. It has handled everything I've used it for out at every campsite, hike, yard work, etc. Totally worth the very low price

I was suprised when I opened this up - its quite heavy.
there is significant feedback in the handle if you chop in the middle of the blade - it chops best when you use the blade close to the tip.
handle fits my hands very well (Large sized glove) - came sharp enough to remove arm hair.
its a very thick bevel, thicker than an axe. I'm going to reprofile it to a convex edge so it chops better.
sheath is your standard form OKC - nylon/cordura. not fantastic...but not terrible either.
