Customer Reviews

First, well made

I was looking for a field tool for all around work. Something that if I did not have a saw and an axe could work.
A longer curved blade has never stood up to chopping. This did!!
Ergonomics, I think I would like it longer. It holds an edge but I also think it dulls quicker than I would like.

Overall, I am satisfied with this product.
Great Machete

Just got my machete.
It's fantastic with really good weight to it.
Only reason I didn't give a 5 star is that it could be sharpened a bit more. Other than that, I think it'll be a great buy.
Chop Chop

I feel like I could cut down the whole world with this thing.

But really, it's a great blade. Heavy head but easy to swing, tears through vines and small brush with ease. Need to chop some branches or small trees? I plowed through 1 1/2" - 2" trees with 4-5 good swings a piece. Tore my thumb up (blisters) under the gloves, but I needed to develop some working man hands anyway.
nice product. not the best for bamboo.

its a nice product.its super nice. i thought it would slice right thru bamboo but had to chop a few times. i had cheaper machete with a thinner blade that would slide right thru bamboo.
Not exactly what I was expecting

I really feel I would have been better off with a good hatch, especially for the price of this. The saw is definitely not going to make jobs quicker. It is built heavy duty, but it’s not going to cut through big or little stuff with ease due to the design. I recommend getting a good folding saw and a machete, hatchet, or small axe
First impression... yes

I love the heftiness of this thing. Im not even going to worry about it when i first use it. It didnt come very sharp, but a few stroke with a sharpening stone and its edge became dangerouly sharp. The sheath is just nylon w a plastic mold insert. The machette stays in securely. There are a couple carying options, including a molle web and strap. Overall, im impressed.
Good value

Others have mentioned loose handle, but mine is tight. A heavy chopper, that mostly takes the place of a small hatchet. Not much to say about the new style sheath except it covers the blade. I like the old style better.
This machete is pretty BA. Absolutely love the size and weight.

Fine Knife But....

First of all, I really like this knife! It feels great in the hand, it's heavy, solid, and capable. What I dislike about this purchase is receiving an obviously used unit. The packaging was held together with tape, and the knife was dusty. KeepShooting provided an appeasement, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that I purchased a new knife and that is not what I received.
Absolutely the best machete available, but...

I have had my SP8 for 18-20 years now, they are hands down one of the best outdoor tools you can own.

In going to purchase another however I see they have absolutely ruined the sheath design which was one on the best features of the overall package. It's disappointing that after spending $60 you now need to spend nearly twice that to have a custom sheath made to get the same functionality.

I highly recommend the SP8 as there are few other products like it. But I also recommend emailing Ontario and asking them what they were thinking about the new sheathing design. Most "second generation" changes are meant to be improvements, in this case it's just a downgrade at a higher cost.

Three stars for downgrading...
