Bad and Heavy.

This is a machete for thick, hard bushes and trees. It can also be used as an ax. My skinny arthritic hands and wrists are not able to put this puppy to the test but, the more I use it, the stronger I get, so........I got that goin' for me........

Great tool! Awesome for splitting and chopping wood...it says "survival machete" but I wouldn't use this to clear shrubs or brush it doesn't have the right blade profile for it plus it heavy...but if you want a pry bar with an edge look no further!
Very nice, please bring back the old sheath.

I have two, I still believe this one of, if not the, finest cutting tool on the market. It has a nice weight and balance, cuts easily in awkward places. I used it to cut roots about the size of my wrist is small holes where leverage and kenetics was a problem. Ordinarily I would have used a hatchet, but I misplaced it and used this instead. It did a great job, fortunately the root was not dry and hard.so the machete cut easily through it. Considering I was cutting into sticky muddy clay and dirt It cleaned up very well and needed only a touch up sharpen. There is a competitor at about three times the price. My only down side is I bought one about three years ago and it came with a hybrid leather/nylon sheath, this one only comes with nylon sheath (not a deal breaker). I put one one in my bug out bag, should the occasion arise. I've used the classic jungle machetes, but the don't seem top work well against harder woods and I had a few ricochet rather than cut. No doubt about it, this machete cuts.

This is an amazing all around tool.
I have used one for years, for everything outdoors. From camping to yardwork.
I bought a few for christmas to give to family members.
One of then came with a crappy nylon sheath.
Is this the new style sheath?
This sheath is junk.
Ontario should go back to the old leather sheath. It's very sturdy and belongs with this amazing tool.
With the old sheath, I give it 5 stars.
With this new style garbage "carry system" I give it 3 stars.
Ontario...step it up and put your tool back in the leather sheath it belongs in.

Purchased the Ontario Sp-8 Survival "Knife" in 2012 and have BEAT THE BAHEACKLES out of it battoning big wood. I did have the spine teeth grinded down flat (it was eating up my botoning wood) after that it was AMAZING. The Ka-bar Large Heavy Bowie was my go to Battoning knife (Discontinued Unfortunately) but the Ontario Sp-8 did the jobs nothing else could it's a chunck of 1095 Steel that will bust through anything it's full tang and just awesome. I do suggest having it customized about $20.00 having the spine grounded down.
Odd tool

Ordered one just to check it out.... A bulky implement that seems to be a multi tool, almost a heavy cleaver.... Good chopping tool for small objects, not for slashing brush. "Saw back" is not a saw at all serrations remove cross grain chunks... A fat plastic handle which might be a little slippery when it's wet, I wish it was a little more rubbery
It's an interesting concept and applicable for its intended purposes, don't over think its purposes... It's a heavy peice of flat stock with an edge.
amazing product, great value!

I just got this yesterday, and I am amazed of how much value you get for around 50 bucks. Its not super sharp out of the box, but even a little dull it still chops really good. This really feels like it will last a lifetime. : )
