Description
Founded in 1974, Springfield Armory, Inc. is an arms manufacturer and importer based in Geneseo, Illinois. After the United States Government closed down the federal armory (Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts) in 1968, a man named Elmer Balance registered the trademark name "Springfield Armory" for his company. That company was later sold to the Reese family and is today operated under the name Springfield Armory, Inc. With that quick history lesson in the books, let us get to the Springfield XDm Series.
In 2002, Springfield Armory brought the XD Series of pistols to the U.S. market. Originally manufactured in Karlovac, Croatia by renowned Croatian arms manufacturer HS Produkt, where it is known as the HS2000, "Springfield XD" is nothing more than a marketing name for the pistol here in America. Nevertheless, the series quickly rose through the ranks, surpassing other polymer pistols from top manufacturers in terms of performance, safety and reliability with a mix of desirable features. From their factory-standard two-stage triggers to their numerous safety features, which include a loaded chamber indicator and the ultra safety assurance (USA) trigger, the XD Series truly represented a pistol that is at the top of its class in all of the areas that matter most.
A few years later, we saw the debut of the Springfield Armory XDm Series of pistols. The XDm Series uses the XD Series as a foundation on which excellence is built. In addition to all of the aforementioned features, all XDm pistols boast a number of cosmetic changes that are not only aesthetically pleasing but 100 percent rooted in functionality as well. This includes increased slide serrations that are cut both deeper and longer for a better grasp. The most noticeable differences, however, come in the form of a match-grade barrel and interchangeable backstraps. Additionally, the disassembly process has been made fool-proof with the reconfiguration of the disassembly lever, which no longer requires a trigger pull. As you can see, the XDm is much more than a different name.
The Springfield XDm-9 3.8 features a match-grade 3.8-inch barrel, which is precision machined from aerospace-grade steel and features a Melonite® finish, alongside an overall length of seven inches. The forged steel slide also features a Melonite® finish for enhanced protection against rust and corrosion. Joined by a lightweight, polymer frame, the pistol weighs in at just 27 1/2 ounces – making it manageable by just shooters of all sizes and skill levels. The pistol also includes a three-dot iron sight system, which features a dovetail front sight and provides for a rapid acquisition of targets and pinpoint accuracy. Other features include interchangeable backstraps and a MIL-STD 1913 rail for mounting lights, lasers and other tactical equipment. As noted, the Springfield XDm-9 ships with two 19-round magazines.
