The Swedish civil defense parka is a winter weather parka that consists of two layers. The outer layer is characterized by powder blue shell that is constructed from a cotton/polyester blend and serves as a buffer for the elements. This outer layer boasts a number of features that include a button-up front, button-adjustable cuffs and an interior drawstring at the waist. Additionally, there are two oversized, button-flap storage pockets that provide a wealth of space of just about anything you could dream of carrying on your person. The inner layer is a synthetic liner that is buttoned into the outer shell and designed to provide warmth. Together, the two layers provide for a heavyweight parka that is truly capable of providing real warmth.

These parkas would have originally been stored by the military or some other governmental response agency and issued to citizens as needed during civil defense emergencies. Though we cannot confirm that these parkas have never been issued, each is in excellent shape and is free from the rips, tears, stains and scents that typically plague military surplus items. Stand out and stay warm by picking up one of these high quality Swedish civil defense parkas today.
During the 20th century, civil defense programs became more and more widespread. With the threat of nuclear war growing, many nations began building civil defense programs that involved principles typically found in emergency operations (prevention, mitigation, preparation, response, evacuation and recovery) to protect ordinary citizens from military attacks, and later, non-military emergencies and disasters. These parkas are just one of the many components that went into Sweden's civil defense program, or what they call totalförsvar.

Good as a utility, but isn't too pretty a sight

Don't be fooled by the image, the color isn't quite it what it seems. If you need to survive an extremely cold winter, this is your jacket, but don't buy it for any other reason.

Very good value, tough coat, but is baby blue color
Review byChris Verified Buyer
Size Large fit me OK and I'm 6'4". Sleeves are just a bit short for me. Coat is very long, falling somewhere above my knees. Outer material is densely woven and tough. I guess this was designed as a tough cold weather work coat, and that is my intended use.

I got this coat last year. Ive worn it on some bitterly cold, windy days, in sub zero temps. It is warm and you cannot feel the wind through it. Ive had customers ask about it when I wear it on service calls. My mother in law has a house keeper, who picked it up when it was in her way cleaning, and she remarked how heavy and warm it was and wanted to know where to get one, so I ordered her one.
Get one of these babies while they are in stock, this is awesome survival gear.

Very good quality for the price

Came in new condition. Really like the quality of the outer shell. The inner liner has has a good shell on it and both seem they can take a beating. Can see the combination stopping the cold north wind. Had to settle for the Large and it is, but with the thick liner fits fine. Longer than I thought. It is a 3/4 or coach length coat. Plan to put it in a compression bag and stow it in the truck as a good source of warmth and protection in case I get caught short on the weather. Great buy and very happy all around with it.

Odd but warm parka
Review byMatthew Verified Buyer
My jacket came in brand new condition, as described, with very quick shipping. This is a well made parka, and seems to be very warm. It shows no signs of previous usage, and is 100% intact. Mine is dated 1969 on the inside. The rest of this review is my personal feelings on the jacket and do not take away from the quality of the item or its usefulness, which I feel are great for a sale price under 20$. That being said...I do not like the color in person nearly as much as online, mine seems very much lighter. My wife commented that it was a "girly color." The pockets are very very large, and look a bit out of proportion (not that I care, form follows function and all that...these are quite functional). And my last complaint is that the jacket looks "institutional" rather than Military, something that would be given to some poor refugee rather than a field worthy coat. My 2 cents....

I am very happy with the coat.

I added this coat onto an order because of the price. I already had one of these coats in green, which I have used a lot over the years when hunting. These coats are heavy, but warm. They also take a pretty good beating and make a great work coat. The coat I received from Keepshooting is in like new condition, and as a bonus it did not have that surplus smell. The shell of the coat I received seems like a heavier fabric than my old green one. The fabric is more denim like than the fabric on the green one. The coat also has a patch on the left sleeve that says “Civilforsvaret”. I was initially going to take the patch off, but I might keep it. The parka looks to be a slightly different shade of blue than what is pictured on the site, or maybe the shade of blue just looks better in person. I don’t see how you can get a better like new work coat for the $18.95 ($19) Keepshooting is selling these for. Although it is currently 90 degrees out, however winter will come; it always does around here.

awesome parka

These parkas are super. They are very heavy weight and warm. I like to have these for truck coats, in case you break down , etc. I have on in OD and thought the blue one would be a great addition.
I got extra large, and I am swimming in it, which is ok by me, for layering. I am 5 eight, medium build.
