Swiss Army Grey Work Jacket

The Swiss Army Grey Work Jacket is an authentic army work jacket from Switzerland. These jackets are made from a tough cotton canvas material, making them excellent jackets for shop or yard work. With the vintage look and tough construction, it is no wonder why these classic army work jackets have been a favorite since they were first imported into the country.

The Swiss Army Grey Work Jacket is a vintage army issued work jacket. These jackets were designed to give soldiers in the Swiss Army an effective field jacket to protect them from the weather and work related hazards.

With the purposeful lack of camouflage pattern, these work jackets would be worn by soldiers working in the motor pool who would use them to protect their uniform from things like oil and grease. You will be able to wear these jackets almost anywhere and they will not attract the kind of attention that a military camouflage jacket would.

A great price for Work Shirts!
Having purchased several of the matching Swiss trousers several years ago, I was quite happy to find the corresponding jackets available for such a low price. I purchased three examples in the "Large" Category. The first is quite similar to the one in the example photo: an older piece, with a plastic button replacing a metal one that was lost by a Swiss soldier sometime in the past. As with the other examples, there is an internal buttoned pocket that rests on the wearer's right hip, and a cloth drawstring in the back to tighten the jacket at "belt height." You can't see it in the example photo, but there are two metal Belt Hooks sewn into the rear sides of the jacket, akin to what you would find on older German uniforms for better weight distribution. This example's hooks appear to be brass. The jacket is stamped "50" and "52," which I am assuming is the Jacket's size, making the US equivalent measurement a 40/42.

The second jacket is the same vintage as the first, the main difference being that only three of the old metal buttons had not been replaced, and the stampings "54' and "52" lead me to believe this is closer to an American 42/44.

The final jacket was quite an unexpected surprise. Noticeably darker in appearance, this one looks like a New Old Stock example of a more recent manufacture. Blued metal Belt Hooks have replaced the brass type, and all buttons are of the plastic variety. In addition to being stamped with a Swiss Acceptance stamp and size "50" (US 40), this one is also marked "JB 67" on the internal waistband, which I would hazard as being an abbreviation of manufacturer and year of production.

All in all, I am quite pleased with my purchase, and would recommend these to anyone in search of an inexpensive work shirt or Swiss Military Collectable!
