US Navy Mark 3 Mod 0 Knife

My standard EDC for over a year now, a work horse of a tool. It's only flaw, for me, is in OAL, more on that later. 10-15 use/week on my firearms or yard/woodworking chores with one notable occassion of repeated use as the on site fixer for an underwater cutting/saw job in Iceland. Sheep intestines tend to fray when run through a cooler and a table saw without proper sheaths, yeah.

It is everything I wanted it to be and more. The sheath is an outstanding example of American made engineering. It fits snug and well, but not so tight as to inhibit drawing the blade. If I had any misgivings about the item it was the concern that a boot type sheath with leather flaps to hold the blade in would wear out and fall apart. But this item puts those concerns to rest and does so with some pretty good padding for the knife. I recommend it to any knife user and even a knife impersonator who wishes they were a "Ken Walsh type. I also bought the American Military EMT Pocket Knife by Ontario.

Tough knife! Ontario stopped the one piece grip but you can still find it for a little extra. This was a big knife for me. This has the same bayonet scabbard the 496c bayonet has. Very happy with it and the serrations do not get damaged easily. High carbon phosphate steel.

The Best all-around Knife you can buy and buy at this Price is the USN Seal Knife, by Ka-Bar in New York. If the S/M, Seal Model (Not as sharp), if MK3 NAVY (Not as tough, if blade is not serrated, then this Military Knife.

OK, let's get to it: I've been using the U.S. Navy MK3 K&T Knife for 30+ years now. They have a great reputation, well earned, for one heckuva knife! And now, for those of us "retired military", for whatever our situation might be, is a Knife well suited to us, to say the least.

The item is the exact same as the old KBD knife that was my issue in 1974 except that this one has black phosphate painted blade instead of unpainted stainless blued blade. This change was probably made to increase the resistance to corrosion from sea water and brine. The knife is tough but somewhat difficult to sharpen due to hard carbon steel used. All in all a good buy for someone who has already decided to not go plastic handle and cheap blade for their issue.

I love this knife. It's great to have around and it's not too big or small.

This is my second MK-3 Navy knife. The first one I bought in the early '90s was used by me as a utility knife and it lasted over 25 years before it started to dull. It was a great utility knife and I kept it until it was no longer usable. I have since purchased another one which I keep on my key chain. It has been very useful when cutting rope or other materials and has never let me down.

One bad SOB! The moment your hand grips it, you feel like you just graduated Basic Training. Makes all others seem insufficient.

<span>Sheath is pretty cheap and lame, bought a Sepc-Ops short sheath for this. Knife is great, sheath is okay at best.</span>

<span>For the life of me, I cannot understant why knife manufacturers spend so little attention to blade sharpening. I just received a new MK-3. Having grown up and served in the Navy I know these knives, and what do I get, a knife w/ an asymmetrical cutting edge. Such carelessness at this very important step in the knife making process is so unacceptable I cannot frame it in words and have this note published. Ontario, a USA company I should support putting out such ill-crafted military knives. I've had very cheap Chinese, Taiwanese, and Indian knives are far supperior in workmanship. What is happening to us? Incompetence? A lack of pride in workmanship? Sorry, I just don't get it! M</span>

Just that one time but they took my glasses and ran away and I hope that you can understand.<br>Anyways the knife. It's huge and it's BLACK! VERY INTIMIDATING! The weight rests comfortably and the handle makes it all Ergonomic. And it's BLACK!<br>Definitely a good investment, as a matter of fact I bought a second one. But I didn't tell her. My wife. The tip on thr top side is not even looks like someone cut it by hand...<br><br>When removing it from the Sheath it scratches the knife even when oiled.<br><br>The Sheath dulls the knife each time you put it in. I saw this after sharpening my knife to a 17 and 19 degree angle. Lost huge amount of sharpness after sheathing it one time.<br><br>Black powder coat on knife only. This coat gets removed with just oiling...<br><br>Called KeepShooting and the person I talked to said it sounded like a fake knife and I agreed...<br><br>When you take the screw out the the plastic does not remove easily. It is a full tang for those who care.</span>

That's the real deal! A straightforward knife, tough MF. No blings or decoration, all black, arrived very sharp. The sheath is excellent and holds the knife perfectly secured and tight. I had a KaBar, Sog, Esee, Tops, and many others. This one is a working horse that will do any job from stubbing, batoning, diving(put tons of oil), prying, slicing, rope cutting, hunting, and household chores. The pommel is great as a hummer and glass breaking. This one you can abuse and enjoy it

<span>After reading several reviews I noticed several commented abouth the sharpness of this knife. When I received the knife I sharpened it for 10 minutes and it is razor sharp. As a knife axe collector we must remember what this knife was produced for. I feel this knife like my other Ontario knives purchased from KeepShooting is outstanding.
