Böker
Solingen Tree Brand Since 1869
Böker has forged knives in Solingen, Germany under its chestnut-tree trademark since 1869 — one of the most respected names in cutlery. At Keep Shooting we carry the brand’s Solingen-made Applegate-Fairbairn combat dagger, the modern heir to the WWII Fairbairn-Sykes, alongside Böker History Knife & Tool reproductions of the Japanese Army pen knife. Old-world steel, made to be carried.
About Böker
Böker is one of the great names in German cutlery, and the selection at Keep Shooting spans both ends of its catalog — the Solingen-made Applegate-Fairbairn combat dagger and two Böker History Knife & Tool reproductions of the WWII Japanese Army pen knife. Find them with the rest of our knives and tools.
The Tree Brand of Solingen
Böker was founded in 1869 by Heinrich Böker and cutlery master Hermann Heuser in Solingen, the German “City of Blades” that has been the heart of European knife-making for centuries. To mark its exports, the family adopted the chestnut tree that had stood by its workshop for generations as a trademark — the famous “Tree Brand,” registered in 1870 and still stamped on Böker blades today. More than 150 years later the company remains a benchmark for fit, finish, and steel, and its Solingen workshop still hand-finishes its premium knives the old way.
The Applegate-Fairbairn: A Fighting-Knife Legacy
The flagship of our Böker selection is the Applegate-Fairbairn Combat Knife, a design with one of the richest pedigrees in the edged-weapons world. During World War II, Colonel Rex Applegate studied under William Fairbairn — co-creator of the legendary Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger — and refined the concept into a better-balanced fighting knife with a redesigned grip. Böker produces that knife in Solingen today: a 5.91″ black 440C double-edge dagger blade with a tough Delrin handle, a stainless guard, and a Cordura sheath. It is a serious fixed blade — the kind that still sees issue with special-operations units — and it sits right at home among our fixed-blade knives next to fighting knives from KA-BAR, Cold Steel, and Ontario Knife Company.
History Knife & Tool: WWII Reproductions
At the other end of the line, Böker’s History Knife & Tool series recreates historic military patterns in modern steel. Both of the pieces we carry are takes on the WWII Japanese Army pen knife, built on a Higonokami-style OD-green handle in 440 stainless. The Can Opener model pairs a 1.97″ blade with an integrated can opener — a practical mess-kit companion — while the Saw & Hawkbill model stacks a reverse-tanto blade, a hawkbill, and a saw into a 3-inch closed package. They make great collectible multitools and slip easily into the folding-knife rotation. Whichever Böker you choose, keep its edge true with a Lansky sharpener — every order ships from Keep Shooting with fast handling and our satisfaction guarantee.
