Who can buy. Machine guns are legal to own in many states, but not all — and eligibility depends on your state and local law. Ownership requires that you be legally able to possess an NFA firearm and that your jurisdiction permits it. How the transfer works. An NFA firearm doesn’t ship to your door. It moves from our inventory to a Class III / SOT dealer near you, and the transfer to you is completed on an ATF Form 4 with a $200 tax stamp, fingerprints, photos, and a background check. ATF approval typically takes time, so patience is part of the process. Once approved, you take possession through your local dealer.
