Thread Adapters
Pistol Adapters & Muzzle Protectors • No Gunsmithing • 12 SKUs
Two small parts that do two jobs at the muzzle. Our thread adapters convert a .22 pistol’s odd factory threads to the universal 1/2x28 standard — no gunsmithing, just swap the barrel nut — so the Glock 44, S&W M&P22, SIG and Colt 1911-22, and Walther P22 can run common rimfire suppressors and muzzle devices. When nothing’s mounted, a Backup Tactical thread protector caps the exposed threads and looks good doing it. 12 SKUs across pistol and rifle pitches.
About Thread Adapters & Thread Protectors
Keep Shooting’s thread adapters catalog runs 12 SKUs that handle the two small jobs at the end of a threaded barrel: adapting one thread pitch to another so your gear fits, and protecting the threads when nothing’s mounted. The adapters here convert a .22 pistol’s factory threads to the universal 1/2x28 standard with no gunsmithing; the protectors cap exposed threads against carbon and corrosion. It all sits inside the broader gun parts catalog — and if you want the full background, we wrote a complete guide to firearm thread adapters.
Pistol Thread Adapters
Most rimfire pistols leave the factory with an odd, model-specific muzzle thread — if they come threaded at all — which is exactly why a .22 suppressor or muzzle device usually won’t fit out of the box. Each adapter here replaces the factory barrel nut and gives that specific pistol the universal 1/2x28 thread, with no gunsmithing required and a thread protector in the box. The Glock 44 Thread Adapter converts the Glock 44’s M9x0.75 threads and adds 9/16″ wrench flats for an easy install. For Smith & Wesson, the S&W M&P22 Thread Adapter handles the full-size, while the M&P22 Compact Thread Adapter steps the Compact’s 3/8x24 barrel nut up to 1/2x28. The two 1911-pattern .22 pistols are covered by the SIG 1911-22 and Colt 1911-22 adapters (the Colt converts an M8x0.75 nut), and the Walther P22 Thread Adapter converts that pistol’s M8x.75 threads with a knurled protector included. Most are made in-house under our United Defense line from CNC-machined steel. If you’re building out a specific host, our Glock parts and 1911 parts sections are worth a look too.
Muzzle Thread Protectors
When the suppressor or muzzle device comes off, bare threads collect carbon, grit, and corrosion fast — and dinged threads mean your gear won’t seat right next time. A thread protector is cheap insurance, and our run from Backup Tactical is CNC-machined to do the job and look sharp doing it. For pistols and any 1/2x28 barrel, the American Flag, Frag, Hash, and Revolver Cylinder caps are machined from 7075 aluminum and fit 9mm and .22 LR threaded barrels. Rifle shooters get two: the Honeycomb .223 Protector in 6061-T6 aluminum for 1/2x28 AR-15 muzzles, and the Hash .30-Cal Protector in 5/8x24 steel for .308 and 300 BLK barrels. Match the protector’s thread pitch to your barrel and you’re set.
Suppressors, Setup & Pairing
A thread adapter is just a part, not a regulated item — but the suppressor it mounts is an NFA item that needs a tax stamp and federal paperwork, which we handle as a licensed Class 3 dealer. Whatever you mount, install the adapter fully so it won’t back off under recoil, and for suppressor use, check bore alignment before you ever send a round. Keeping the threads clean between range trips is part of the same habit as the rest of your gun cleaning routine. New to any of this? Our thread adapter guide walks through thread pitch, the honest trade-offs, and how to choose the right part — or browse the rest of our gun parts to round out the build.
