Spacious and Functional 5.11 Tactical BackpackI recently took a four-day work trip to Texas, and I felt fortunate to have my 5.11 Tactical backpack with me. I have a packing system I follow when I travel: I usually pack most of my clothes and extra shoes in a suitcase, which I check, while carrying on my camera bag and a backpack with essentials like my computer, extra socks, and a hygiene bag. This method helps me avoid the hassle of lost luggage, which I experienced in the past. Since this trip was for hunting, I needed to pack extra gear like boots, snake gaiters, and a warming layer. Thankfully, the 34-liter capacity of the 5.11 backpack provided more room than my usual NorthFace bag. I was able to fit all my essential gear and then some, including a hardcopy book from the library, a notebook with extra pens, charging cords for my devices, batteries, a week's worth of snacks, a 32-ounce water bottle, and a travel mug. I found the pocket layout to be very convenient. The main compartment features two wide mesh pockets with zippers, and there’s an electronics pocket with soft lining behind the handle. Additionally, two utility pockets were perfect for storing COVID supplies like hand sanitizer and wet wipes. The stationary pocket has multiple zippered layers, which helped me stay organized, especially since I’m particular about where my items go. One downside was the computer slot. While it’s positioned against the back like most backpacks, the depth made it difficult to access my laptop quickly without removing other items. However, I discovered that the water bladder compartment behind the back cushion worked well for my computer, so I used it for that purpose. In terms of comfort, the backpack performed well. It features a harness and chest strap for added support, and the straps are easy to adjust. I would recommend this backpack for anyone needing to carry a lot of gear while traveling or camping, though it might be too large for daily use.
34-liter capacity allows for ample storage of essential gear.
Well-placed pockets for organization, including mesh and utility pockets.
Harness and chest strap provide support for heavy loadsThe computer slot is hard to reach quickly due to the bag's depth.
May be too large for everyday needs, better suited for travel or camping.
