ECW Outer Mitten Shells

These are British Army ECW outer mittens. ECW stands for Extreme Cold Weather, and these shells are worn over inner gloves to keep wind and snow off the hands. The long gauntlet cuff runs well past the wrist and seals over a jacket sleeve. A trigger finger lets you work a weapon, zip or buckle without pulling the mitten off. They suit winter hikers, hunters, cold-weather campers and collectors of British issue kit.

Features

• DPM Camouflage — The shell is printed in DPM (Disruptive Pattern Material), the British woodland camouflage of brown, green, black and sand.
• Polyester Outer Shell — The polyester body forms the outer layer of the system, so you can pair it with whatever inner glove the temperature calls for.
• Trigger Finger Design — The index finger has its own section, which leaves you more dexterity than a plain mitten while the other fingers stay grouped together for warmth.
• Dotted Grip Palm — A palm and finger panel covered in raised dots gives better hold on rifles, poles and tools in wet or frozen conditions.
• Gauntlet Cuff — The extended cuff reaches up the forearm and overlaps a coat sleeve to keep snow out of the wrist gap.
• Webbing Wrist Strap — An olive webbing strap with a buckle cinches the mitten at the wrist so it stays put when you grip or pull.
• Drawcord Cuff Closure — A drawcord with a cord lock, a small sprung toggle that holds the cord in place, closes the top of the gauntlet around your arm.

Layering And Fit

Outer mittens are sized to fit over a liner or insulated glove, so they cut roomier than an ordinary glove. Wear a thin liner on its own for milder days, or add a thicker insulated glove underneath when the cold gets serious. The wrist strap and drawcord let you take up the extra room once your inner layer is on. Because they were made for the British Army, the DPM pattern also matches other British issue clothing of the same period for reenactors and collectors.
