British Army Parachutist Smock DPM Camo

The British Army Parachutist Smock is a genuine airborne-issue combat jacket cut from tightly woven cotton gabardine in classic four-color DPM woodland camouflage. Descended from the wartime Denison smock, it carries the hallmark parachutist details: a full-length front zip with no covering flap, four bellows pockets, knitted woolen cuffs, a high throat-tab collar, and the externally stowed crotch flap that draws up between the legs for jumps. The loose smock cut layers easily over combat kit and cold-weather gear. It's built for airborne troops, bushcraft, hunting, and anyone who wants one of the most respected field jackets ever issued.

Description

Features

  1. DPM Woodland Camouflage — Cut in the classic four-color British Disruptive Pattern Material for effective concealment in temperate and wooded terrain.
  2. Full-Length Front Zip — Heavy-duty zipper runs the entire length of the smock with no covering flap, a defining trait of the Para pattern for fast on-and-off.
  3. Four Bellows Cargo Pockets — Two chest and two lower bellows pockets with press-stud flaps swallow maps, magazines, IFAKs, and rations.
  4. Externally Stowed Crotch Flap — Drop-down diaper tail on the rear draws up between the legs and fastens with paired pop-studs to keep the smock secured during a jump.
  5. Knitted Woolen Cuffs — Ribbed elasticated cuffs seal the wrists against wind and snag, a hallmark of parachutist outerwear.
  6. Stand-Up Collar with Throat Tab — High collar buttons across the throat to block wind and rain around the neck.
  7. Cotton Gabardine Construction — Tightly woven cotton body sheds wind while remaining breathable and quiet in the field.
  8. Buttoned Epaulettes and Hem Adjusters — Shoulder straps carry rank slides while internal hem adjusters cinch out drafts from below.
  9. Loose Smock-Style Cut — Roomy airborne fit layers easily over combat kit, load-bearing gear, and cold-weather insulation.
  10. Genuine British Issue Heritage — Successor to the wartime Denison smock, issued to the Parachute Regiment and airborne units since the late 1970s.

I've owned a bunch of parachutist smocks over the years repros, US copies, even an old British one I scored on ebay years ago that finally wore out. This one is as good as any I've had and better than most. The DPM pattern is spot on, the weave is tight and feels like genuine issue gabardine, and all the details are correct: the exposed front zip, the high throat-tab collar, the knitted cuffs, the four bellows pockets, and yes the crotch strap hanging down the back just like the real airborne troops had to deal with. Its the kind of smock that looks right hanging in the closet and even better out in the field. I mostly use mine for hunting and outdoor work and its been fantastic. The material is tough I've dragged it through brambles, sat on the ground, got it rained on and it just keeps going. Layers great over a baselayer and midlayer in the cooler months. A couple honest notes: if you're between sizes, size down because these run loose by design, and treat the cotton with some waterproofing wax or spray if you plan on serious wet weather use. But as an authentic piece of British airborne history that you can actually wear hard, this is about as good as it gets.

Tougher than it looks handles heavy field use and harsh conditions

Runs large/baggy as intended for airborne use sizing down is often necessary
