Details

The British Royal Air Force is the premier air power in Europe and has been so since the formation. With a standing force of over 30,000 and a need to operate in all types of weather the RAF has issued a number of specialist uniform components. The mission of the RAF is critical to the success of the United Kingdom, so no operation can be stopped due to inclement or foul weather conditions. This makes the issuance of wet weather gear for ground crew to be one of the more essential parts of the RAF uniform components.

The centerpiece of the RAF wet weather uniform is this jacket that we now have available for sale. Officially this jacket is known as the RAF Foulweather Jacket and has seen a number of small design changes since it was first fielded. Soldiers in the RAF have been overwhelmingly pleased with the performance of this jacket in wet weather conditions and it has become a favorite of civilians after the RAF began to sell them as surplus. We have sorted these by size and found a small number of differences between jackets, some have been fitted with snaps on the storm flap while others have Velcro. Since these jackets were all previously issued, there may be some that come with unit patches or name tags.

  • Authentic British Royal Air Force Jacket
  • Designated "JACKET, FOULWEATHER"
  • Zippered Front with Storm Flap
  • Fully Taped Seams - 100% Water Proof

  1. Poor rain protection, but great otherwise. review by Father of Giants on 3/11/2017

I rode on my bicycle in steady rain, 2 mile round trip.
When I got home I realized my arms and shoulders where soaked. That too me is a partial failure.

My French rain pants where bone dry and didn't soak in ANY water.

However, as a jacket, it's great.

Compared to the french army rain jacket the British one is...
    Quieter
    More fashionable
    Warmer
    More durable
    Two big pockets
The sleeve are cuffed internally to lock out wind, also keeps your wardrobe in check. That's s plus.

In the end BUY this jacket, it's great overall

Works well in wind, if In a good rain will soak thru to inner liner and might feel cold but dries off fairly quick. Storm flap &collar keep out elements w hidden pocket left
Side only. Good value , works well if proper layering under garment, size 180/112fit well , used but Lotsa life left to give.

  4. Economical rain protection review by W. Crow on 4/2/2016

The jacket I received appeared to be new. We haven't had a hard rain yet to try it out (I wasn't going to get up at 2 a.m. for the one we did get). Under a faucet, it appears to be watertight. Water beads and with rubbing it will "wet-out" but interior stays dry. The jacket I got is lined, so I can't verify the taped seams. The jacket seems very well made. It also has knit cuffs inset in the sleeves. They will stay dry, but for summer wear, they will cut down on ventilation.
I will call this an observation, not necessarily a criticism: the RAF must not be concerned with "stealth" for their personnel. This jacket is noisy! If you like to sneak through the woods in a light rain, this may not be the jacket for you. (If it is raining hard enough, it will cover up the noise.)
