Legit G-LOFTOkay so I picked this up from Keep Shooting after seeing it listed as new unissued and honestly for the price I was a little skeptical it'd be the real deal... but it showed up with tags still on and the Carinthia markings intact. This is genuine Austrian defense-contract gear, not some repro the G-LOFT insulation is the real selling point here, body is 145g/m² and it actually keeps you warm down around the -20°C they claim. I wore it doing sentry-type static work during a cold snap here in the upper Midwest and it performed, no question. The ripstop outer with the PTFE membrane sheds light precip fine and the 3-way adjustable hood stows into the collar which is a nice touch. The OD green is a dark ranger-type green, not your grandpa's Vietnam OD, and it blends well in winter woodland. My grippe is the fit Carinthia sizing runs a little generous in the body and the sleeves are oddly long, plus there's no powder skirt at the hem which would be nice in deep snow. Also the outer material is noticeably loud when you move, kind of a crinkling sound, not a dealbreaker but something to know if you're trying to be quiet. Compared it side by side with a buddy's Arc'teryx LEAF Cold WX jacket and honestly the Carinthia is warmer for less money, though the Arc'teryx is quieter and trimmer. For straight cold-weather utility you can't beat it though. One reviewer on a European site mentioned a sleeve seam blowing out on day one mine's been solid through about six weeks of regular use so maybe that was a one-off, but worth keeping an eye on the seam quality at the stress points.

Worth ItThis is honestly the best jacket I’ve ever owned. Yes, the price tag is high, but every penny is justified. The jacket arrived in brand new condition, complete with its original bag. I was a bit nervous about the fit, but here’s how it worked for me: I’m 5’11”, weigh 180 lb, and have an athletic build. The medium fits like a glove. I plan to wear a light layer underneath because the jacket already handles quite cold temperatures on its own. -Sizing tip: If you prefer a bit more room, size up. I wouldn’t recommend sizing down it becomes uncomfortably tight.
