It's not exactly sure how much of a deal the Rothco Alice pack might be since I don't know how much the competitors' products would cost. However, I can state that the Alice is quite sturdy, very simple, without fuss, and does not appear like it would break anytime soon. As for it being the wrong size for its intended purpose, the blame for that can be assigned to either the vendor who provided inaccurate measurements, the bag itself for coming with inadequate spacing between the two major components, or myself for not reading and comprehending the detailed descriptions carefully enough. In any case, it is small, but it is not too small.

I bought this to use as my EDC bag and it's perfect! It holds all of my stuff (keys, wallet, phone, etc) plus some extras in the pockets. The straps are comfortable and the bag feels sturdy enough to handle whatever I throw at it.

I bought this as a backpack to go camping and it's great! It has plenty of room inside, even if you fill up all 3 compartments (which I did). The only downside was the strap adjustment, but I think that can be fixed easily enough. Overall though, great bag!
