East German NVA Parade Helmet

The East German NVA Parade Helmet is an authentic piece of Cold War militaria issued to the Nationale Volksarmee of the German Democratic Republic for ceremonial and guard duties. Built on the unmistakable M56 Stahlhelm silhouette, this lightweight version is molded from vulcanized fiber rather than steel, making it far easier to wear through long parades and honor-guard rotations. It features the trademark Steingrau finish, the DDR tri-color national shield, a perforated leather liner, and a Y-strap leather chin harness. A genuine NVA-issued collectible for militaria collectors, Cold War historians, reenactors, and display builders.

Been hunting one of these vulcanized fiber parade helmets for years and finally pulled the trigger. Keep Shooting's description is spot-on - this is genuine NVA Wachregiment issue, not one of those sketchy reproductions floating around on eBay. The Steingrau matte finish matches my reference photos from the Bundesarchiv perfectly. Compared to the phenolic "paper mache" 1st pattern prototypes that WarS End Shop sells (which are interesting in their own right), this is the standard issue parade variant that actually saw use by the Feliks Dzierzynski Regiment. Liner's intact, chinstrap's dated 1984, and there's minimal storage odor - just that faint musty smell of authentic DDR surplus. Already ordered a second one for my display case.

    Authentic vulcanized fiber construction
    Correct Steingrau parade finish
    Original liner and chinstrap intact

I have been searching for an authentic NVA parade helmet for my collection, and this one is a fantastic find. The "coal scuttle" silhouette is instantly recognizable, and the stone grey finish is in great shape for its age. It is much lighter than the steel combat versions, which makes it very comfortable to display or handle.

    Authentic East German military surplus.
