Evidently Not To Be Used As a Hatchet
Review by Ellouise G.
Bought this for backpacking to split small pieces of wood for fires. The hatchet head is too thin to split anything and gets stuck and the handle is too short to get a good swing. Tried to baton it through smaller pieces of firewood and it still did not work. This is basically a knife with a hatchet handle. Not sure what Gerber had in mind when they designed this but it wasn't firewood. Save space and weight and go with a good knife. It's simply too light and skinny to be used as a hatchet.

Not for splitting
Review by Theodus C.
The back of the head is only 1/8" thick. I wanted it to split kindling. With a head so thin, I returned it before I even removed the packaging

It's small
Review by Myer T.
I'm giving it 5 stars even though it's smaller than I imagined but that's my fault I'm not a dimensions kinda guy and it's in the print. Only real downside is it's made in China and the handle Is fairly small (I even have small hands for being 6'3") otherwise it came sharp, good condition, lightweight. I wouldn't expect to use this for heavy duty stuff considering the weight of the hatcher but I plan to use it for smaller crafts. Overall nice little hatchet to add to my collection no regrets.

Great Quality for Price!
Review by Yon A.
This product functions exactly as intended. However, I seriously recommend sharpening as soon as you take it out of the box as mine came in sharp, but not enough so to make chopping even smaller green limbs very well. Also, I HIGHLY recommend you wear some sort of gloves to protect you hands from blistering as the rubber grip will destroy your hands if you intend on using this for a prolonged period of time. Other than that, the weight feels great in your hand. The grip isn't as intricately designed as proclaimed. Perhaps a handle with more of a natural curvature to suit the shape of the hand when closed. Maybe finger holes to help you keep a firm grip on it when not using gloves. A plastic material probably would’ve worked out well. But yeah, sharpen before use. Even if it comes sharp already.

Great backpack axe

I got this as a backpack axe and truck axe. Decent sharpness out of packaging. Allows for choking up on blade. Good weight to it. I am going to be buying a couple more for my vehicles

JUST BUY IT, ITS WORTH IT
Review by Megen O.
Actually a great hatchet for camping and hiking. I’ve cut down plenty of small trees and medium to small firewood with it. I might end up getting another just to have in case I lose this one. It doesn’t hurt your hand to beat the hell out of a hard piece of wood and it doesn’t take much to get through any wood. Blade comes very sharp and ready to use. You should definitely get this one

Love that choke grip
Review by Kayte O.
It's light weight in the sense that it does the work of a full size hatchet. I was told it was a weekend warrior fad but I have a 4 month stint in the Mexican west coast of hunting and fishing amongst large machete toting locals who fell on love with it when they saw it in action breaking down a pigs and goats. I wouldn't recommend such abuse but it will help for those weekend trips.
My only complain is the bottom part exposed the full tang, gerber could've taken a hint from the ka-bar becker
line-up. Other than that i'd say its a pretty versitile tool.

handy
Review by Carlon E.
It's narrower than you might expect for a hatchet, and that means its striking surface on the back side is a little more difficult to use. It doesn't have the characteristic wedge profile and heft. But this thing fits into the hand very nicely, and its light weight is the chief attraction. Think of it as more of a hand machete. It will be good for backpacking or canoeing. Good for making tinder, for carving tent/tarp stakes, good for light chopping work to make camp for the evening. Bought it for a canoe trip.

Ax hachet not for me
Review by Alex U.
It was to hard to use. To thin. My arms were sore using it. Just didn’t have the right balance for me. Lightweight and easy to store but usefulness is primary importance. Did not work for me
