The Ka-Bar Mark I is a compact fixed-blade knife, meaning the blade is solid and cannot fold, which makes it stronger and quicker to use than a folder. It has a black steel blade, a textured Kraton handle and a molded hard sheath with retention straps. It suits everyday field work, camp chores and a place on a pack or belt where a full-size combat knife would be too much.

• Black Steel Blade — The steel blade has a dark, non-reflective finish from spine to tip, so it doesn't flash in sunlight.
• Plain Straight Edge — The edge runs without serrations from the guard to the upswept tip, which makes it easy to sharpen and clean in slicing cuts.
• Sharpening Choil — A small notch at the base of the edge lets a stone or rod reach the full length of the cutting edge.
• Kraton Handle — Kraton is a rubber-like thermoplastic with a pebbled texture that holds well in wet or gloved hands.

• Flared Pommel — The rounded end cap swells out from the grip, so the knife stays put when you pull back on a cut.

Handle And Sheath Build

The Mark I uses a one-piece Kraton grip between the crossguard and pommel, without any separate scales or stacked washers that could loosen. The sheath is black like the knife, and its slots and eyelets give you several ways to mount it besides the belt loop. The finish is plain black from blade to pommel, so it won't stand out on dark kit.
